How much ram...

Thursday, June 21, 2001 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

How much ram do you guys get away with/need to get these graphics off the ground?
I just added 2 x 256 meg chips to my existing 2 x 128 meg...and things are looking good....768 meg, and to think I started with a Pentium 100 with 8 meg and PSP 3....
It's the scanning of pics which really seems to test your capacity....manipulating 150 meg files...

Ah, but WinBloated 2000 really isn't happy much below 256, although I have a p166 with 64 meg chugging along fairly OK...
I upgraded cos 512 meg cost me AUD $230, which would be about US$55...

Even Win2000 behaves with 128M, although that's on my 800MHz beast.

Ahhh.. the days of Vic-20's and tape drives (just use you audio tape, eh?) I loved my Vic-20

I think both my home and work have 256 Meg.
Of course, it really doesn't matter since I don't produce anything

Jafo. LiteSTEP is a godsend in that respect (well many respects actually), of course I'm a glutton for punishment for running win2k on my system.

Sylva_cg76, your welcome in my "poor folk corner" anytime

whoa! Jafo, you paid $105USD for 512MB? what type? I just picked up 512MB of PC133 (generic - nonbrand name stuff - at least I've never heard of it - but it works fine in my Dell) for $140CDN. That means that it actually was cheaper for me! Could this be true? Something cheaper in Canada than in the U.S.??? Wow...
