Icon Packager

Thursday, September 16, 2010 by beachbummer | Discussion: Skinning

Hi all - just wondering if anyone's doing any work on Icon Packager - seems quite a while since any new packages have been uploaded. Does Windows 7 make it not viable or has IP lost its appeal? I certainly love it but would like to see more great skins from our masters et al (mormegil, yangge, skinhit, stardock).

You know I was wondering the same thing just a couple of days ago. I keep going to the IP section but no new icons.

A full set of icons is so much work.  It was't so much the case back in teh day when icons maxed out at 48x48 but with icon size going up to 256x256 it just gets crazy.

Thanks for your responses - I'ii just have to keep on wishing   - or perhaps I should bite the bullet and learn how to make my own - my next project.

Well I'm flattered that you consider me a Master beachbummer, unfortunately I'm no longer skinning.

a full blown icon package is ALOT of work, the first 10 are a breeze, when you get near half way, you start questioning yr sanity and keep saying things like........'why did i start this again?... but you keep plugging it out, and keep up with the quality of work you started out with on your first icon of the set, cause its expected, and no one like sloppy work. and also cause you know that the end will be in sight hopefully in a few days...

then when you get near the end, you feel greatful you are nearing completion and have survived another round of IP.

so I say again.......ALOT of work, thats probably why you dont see them very often.

Emphasis on unfortunately. The skinning community lost a great skinner.

Seconded, thirded and fourthded!  Jack Nolan (aka Skinhit) is among the absolute best icon skinners of all time and holds a special place in my heart as one of the nicest guys ever to grace the pages and libraries here at WC.

a lot of work? this two only took me less than a month, like two weeks: http://tycus.deviantart.com/art/Raptor-Elite-179096158?q=gallery:TYCUS+sort:time&qo=0 , http://tycus.deviantart.com/art/Raptor-IP-179745694?q=gallery:TYCUS+sort:time&qo=0

if any of you see what you do best as a pain, why do you even bother?

Skinhit - what a damn shame, we've lost a beauty! Still, I've got all your IPs so my pc won't suffer.

Zubaz, Vamp & others - I for one appreciate the work & commitment that goes into your work - keep it up.

Tycus - great icons!
