September Desktop Screenshots

Here's me still 'at it' skinning the controls/cockpit of a Republic F105...buzzing over Melbourne at mach 1.5 and scaring the pants off the locals.....there's one of 'em just to the left of the HUD....he's the blip front/center of the head-up radar.
Not just altering xml....but hunting down photos of the aircraft to add 'bits' of detail to make things a little more realistic....things like the throttle quadrant and main radar cowl....are borrowed from various photos....re-skewed/sized/rotated/etc to suit.
The 'skinning' involved is about as 'complicated' as it gets.
If I get REALLY eager I'll start from scratch and make it all fair-dinkum exact. [there's poetic licence as is...to suit screen proportions/resolution.]
This is about how SKINNING differs from wallpaper making.....the result can be interfaced with.....buttons move....gauges read [all those gauges actually work]....![]()
SKINNING's FUN .....![]()

Seven days until Talk-Like-A-Pirate-Day (09/19/2010), Arrrrrh.
WB = StealthOS with a dye job applied through textures
CursorFX = Excalibur
IconPackager = Dragon
Rainlendar of my own creation
ClocX of my own creation
Can't remember where I got the wallpaper, but it's easy enough to Google for those.

The 'skinning' is with the plane in the FSX screenshot.
Late afternoon light makes the visuals even more appealing.
I hit the 'anchors' in the Thud a wee bit too late....so a second or 2 later the scene wasn't quite as pretty....not for the AI aircraft, anyway.
Dynamically it is next to impossible to fly formation with these 2 aircraft....the civilian would be just about flat-out to keep up with the Thud at stall.....hanging it all out and juggling thrust with attitude [standing on your bum] and sooner or later you'll fall out of the sky and need to clean up and recover lift. You can't sit on your arse and go balistic as thrust /> weight.
As you see by all the icons in the Fences....there's all sorts of crap used to help with the skinning of FSX....the most important is the DXTBmp graphic 'opener/converter'.
Working out what maps where...and why is 'entertaining' as not all skins/models do it the same.
I'm currently running with no WB as I have the Beta of IE9....and need to be bug-hunting that as it affects Wincustomize, etc....![]()

Stripe Poker (vStyler) cleans the eye with a wonderful, Masterful wba....aided by the Giz's docks and BR2's "Select". I like this theme so much because of it's happy and summery energy.
Thanks for a wonderful Desktop, guys. Makes work easy and pleasy-ing to the eyes and gives energy to the tired old GrandDoc. (*insert shameless Ethan plug here*)
