Magic Pink

I'm hoping this image gets posted correctly here. If it does.......
I just learned about the magic pink method of creating transparency (thank you, Latin, for your post on the wstaylor site). But, is there an easy way to eliminate the pink edging? Is it that my original image wasn't of a high enough resolution? Input would be helpful.
BTW, this sysmetrix theme, a minimal meter object, is a work in progress, resulting from my new-found knowledge. Any thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated, also. TIA

That's the trouble with Magic Pink, or any one color transparency................ you can't use anti-aliasing against a single color transparent background. Doesn't SysMetrix support PNG? With PNG you can use alpha channel transparency, and anti-aliasing works fine.

Thanks, Koasati. I checked on Xmantic's site, and apparently .png is an acceptable format. However, when I reworked and converted my graphic to a .png, Sysmetrix wouldn't recognize the format. Maybe tonight, I'll try again. Before you ask, yes I do have the latest build of Sysmetrix. I'm thinking that you cannot mix .bmp and .png formats in one skin. I dunno....... I really want to figure this out, because it really opens up a lot of possibilities, obviously.

Dabe, the problem with magic pink is that if the color is slightly off it will not disappear. It will show pink. If the color is (255,13,255) or (254,0,255) instead of (255,0,255), the pink will show. Those pink pixels therefore are not (255,0,255). You need to move your color picker over the area and when you see a deviation from pure magic pink, you can fix it. I copied your image and opened it, and those areas in the pic above are not magic pink.

Everything Chas says is true, but it's much easier to create a circle and round corners with PNG, than trying to work with Magic Pink.

The latest Sysmetrix supports png images on top of a bmp background that can be used to create a faux transparency by copying the desktop wallpaper that is directly below it onto the background bmp. This skin https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=28&SkinID=1631 by WickedP is a good example of it

Thanks, Chas. I did go back to find the less than perfect pink pixels, and fix them. It's a pain in the arse. So, I tried the png thing, but it's not being recognized by the Sysmetrix program. I think I just have to start from scratch, which wouldn't be a terrible thing, in that my image isn't great. It's just a learning experience. I'll get there. But I'm sure I'll be back here looking for more help.

I don't know which graphics proggy you are using, but in order for Sysmetrix to recognise your png, in Photoshop go to file/save for web, select png24. It should recognise it then, something to do with extra information in the image that doesn't get read by Sysmetrix. Hope that helps.
