logoff buttons background in the Start panel

Does anyone know how to prevent the logoff button background from being effective in the Start panel using Skin Studio?
My problem is this:
I have buttons for undock, logoff and shutdown. The logoff and shutdown buttons appear in the start menu as I want them, but when the mouse is over them the blue XP box is drawn around them.
I have defined a transparent "magic pink" bmp to be used as the background for the logoff buttons area, and now the blue box is not drawn but the logoff and shutdown buttons don't highlight any more when the mouse is over them.
At least with the XP blue box around them they highlighted as well.
Does anyone know how to stop the default blue boxes from appearing _and_ have the buttons highlight correctly when the mouse is over them?
Seems that one thing is Skin Studio is contrary to another... >

You are correct, J. SkinZ. One is contrary to the other, unfortunately. Some folks have come up with some clever ways to work around it though, as CerebroJD said.

In a few cases, I have adjusted the logoff button background image so that the visible part only appears behind the text next to the buttons. It's better than no highlight, and it's better than the solid colored box.
Another approach is to make the bottom bar of the start menu a solid color and make the mouseover color the same, so that the mouseover color is 'invisible' when you mouse over it.

As I recall, Cyrix by danilloOc has a workaround for that issue. Try and take a closer look at that in SkinStudio, I think it has something to do with tga's and transparency.

I've had a look at Cyrix, and he seems to implement a mix of the workarounds suggested by CerebroJD and MikeB314. Reckon I'm gonna simulate the buttons in the logoff background. Seems the most sensible approach.
