LogonStudio Windows 7 question

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 by ImaginedTruth | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Is there any way to convert a logon made for LogonStudioXP to work on Vista or Windows ?

No not really, at least not with the user names and buttons etc skinned.

But-

You can use the main image from an XP login as the image to load into Logon Studio for Vista/7.  File name is Bitmap_100.bmp within the directory named as the LogonStudio theme.  So for a Logon named "Dragon" the image file you'd want to copy out is:

C:\Program Files\LogonStudio\Dragon\Bitmap_100.bmp (Not sure about Vista/Win7 "Program Files" path)

Those images will usually actually be a little short from top to bottom, there's another image that goes underneath them, so if you use them as is the aspect ratio will be a bit off.

Win 7 path

C:\Users\All Users\Stardock\LogonStudio Vista\Logons

Note you have to go to ORGANIZE then click on FOLDER AND SEARCH OPTIONS click VIEW tab and

check SHOW HIDDEN FILES, FOLDERS, AND DRIVES  Then UN-Check HIDE PROTECTED OPERATING SYSTEM FILES (RECOMMENDED)

note that you will more then likely need to take Owner Ship of the files....

an easier way is to get 7zip FREE

Right Click on the .logonxp then find 7zip a sub menu will open Click on EXTRACT TO  it will have the Name of the Skin

Example  I did  Aquart.logonxp  so it will say EXTRACT TO Aquart  and put it in a folder  this is good so that every thing stays together

OR

you can go to that Wallpaper if there is one, not the logon and just use the Wallpaper..

once you have the logon image or Wallpaper just open  LogonStudio and DRAG the image to it and it will fill out the name and all, but it

will list you as the Author, which is ok as long as you don't upload it with out the Author's permission.. then click SAVE SAVE

as to what DaveRI

yes some will look odd as for Aquart it is 1280x1024  looks ok  i am at 1920x1080

You should just be able to drag on or open up the .logonxp file, too. This may be a little easier.

Yeah, I found this out accidentally... downloaded and ran what i thought was a Vista logon... turns out it was a XP logon, but LogonStudio Vista converted it no worries.
