Community Skins.

Tuesday, July 8, 2003 by --Gabriel | Discussion: Skinning

I would really like to ressurect these...

Not to be presumptuous but I would be glad to donate a PSD to the cause if there is any interest, maybe Glassteel could become a community skin, like an open-ended Port-this-at-will kind of thing...

How was it handled in the past?

Oh yes, I would like to see a suite with it. Normally it starts with some graphics, a website and a little forum the contributors can communicate over. Although the last community project failed a little. I could contribute webspace and a forum, if You want a start.

Me thinks you've just found out how to start one. Also, usually someone puts up a website listing all the skins in the "package".

Çërêb®øJÐ: That would be fantastic, I'll post the PSD on WC with an open ended permission.

By the way: What does PSD stand for?

PSD is the default file format for Photoshop, (saves all the layers, and such) and that brings up a very good point. Gabriel, you can't assume everyone uses Photoshop......... many do not. You'll need to provide simple BMPs, or perhaps PNGs with transparency would be better, for non-PS folks.

^^Gabriel : You could do that at the forum, too as a start and testing things (if You want).
I hope, it fits all the needs. Please let me know.

c242, you might want to set up ftp access for the participants. Easy way to share files, and upload completed skins.

Koasati : It's even easier, the forum provides file upload (Invision Board like Neowin) But more when it all takes place and is basically organized.

MadIce dreams of an Experimental section.

It could probably handle intiatives like this very well.

Ah well, we'll see.
