Off Topic: Custom Lasik Experiences

This is a little off topic but I decided to finally go in and get my eyes "lasered" with a procedure called custom LASIK.  For those of you who wear glasses and contacts and have had interest in this, I'm running an on-going diary on this.

I've gone back and forth on this for years since I'm pretty squeamish about messing with my eyes so I'll be giving how things go on this.

I too want to have this done, I've been doing some research on the procedure and I talked to a few people that had it done. I think i'll have it done by the end of this year. I wish you the best of luck and hope everything goes smooth.

My mom had laser surgery done. She *was* wearing coke bottles. While it didn't get her to 20/20, it came close.

Go for it dude. I had it done, and I love it. It wasn't a painful experience, or a very frightening one. I love being able to wake up in the morning and not have to reach for glasses, or be able to go to bed without having to take out contacts. Overall, I would reccomend this 100%.

I've heard its real good unless you are older. I've heard that its best to get it done before 40 or 50 yrs old. After that time your site naturally starts to deteriorate. I hope to get it done soon too, before I get too old. Good luck, please keep us informed.

I know many people that have had the procedure, and all positive results. My dad had it done on both eyes, at age 80...after wearing glasses most of his adult life, it was touching to see him without the burden. Best of luck to you.

I had it done about five years ago. No problems and no pain. Not cheap but well worth it.

I almost went through with this procedure, but once my doctor described it to me I decided not to. Good luck with it though, you are a braver man than I.

I saw a comedian awhile back talk about this, and I'm sorry I can't remember his name. But, he said something like:

"I'm a little afraid of the idea of getting laser beams shot into my eyes. Now, if they ever have a procedure where I can get laser beams to shoot *out* of my eyes, count me in!".

Interesting how you say you found yourself helpless without your contacts. My mother and sister give me the same story, but I, on the other hand, have not trouble without my contacts, even though my eyesight is roughly the same as yours (was).

Sure, I see blurry and have to get real close to things to read them, but that's just where it is limited to: reading. Okay, okay, watching tv would be limited as well.

Ofcourse, no-one ever believes me when I say that, but that's another story.

My brother had it done successfully. I have considered it, but unfortunately it is out of my budget. Contacts aren't so bad, at least better than glasses.

I think it's still too expensive, and I've been wearing contacts for so long I'd prob feel naked if I had that done (besides me likes green/brown eyes better)
strange my power was always (L)6.75, (R)5.75 and I recently went to get a recheck and refill and my eyes actually got better! now I'm wearing 4.75 in "both eyes" My eye doc was surprised, anyways if this keeps up I may not need contacts in the years to come! hehe

Neat to hear your experience on this Froggy, glad it worked out for you...
