DesktopX 2.21

DesktopX 2.21 has been released.  DesktopX is a program that extends Windows to support true objects on the desktop. These objects are used to do everything from have "super icons" to being combined together to create "widgets" as well as building entire desktops.

Version 2.21 is mostly an update for those who like to create widgets and themes but has some memory saving features as well:

  • Smart-Bitmap Loading to support animated multi-state objects/widgets
  • Widgets now have their own name space
  • Holding down the Ctrl Key will always move/select an object in DesktopX regardless of how it's grouped
  • Sub-Child activation fixed (clicking on a parent object will activate its children and those children will activate their children and so forth)
  • DX labels not responding correctly to resolution changing
  • Includes new Weather widget that has features for changing color on the fly and other goodies.
  • Bundled objects and widgets updated to better show off what DesktopX can do.

Now how about making the taskbar object colorizeable? .... guess I shouldn't ask for too much, eh?

Thanks for updating the DX download

Don't mean to sound ungrateful, but please release or include 'The Weather' widget as an object As I'm running DX I'd rather not run another .exe and its a fantastic widget.

Sept - just import the widget in DesktopX. You can import widgets as objects.

also, anybody have the link about how to properly use widgets tutorial?

Does it hinder or help in memory usage to use the widgets as a stand-alone or it it more memory friendly just using the Desktop X program?
(I know it can vary, but let's just say you wanted to run icon x, a weather checker, and a system monitor resource).

Probably best to run then in DX2.

To import, bring up the DX2 control panel, and from the Control Meni at the bottom, select 'Import'. Point it at the weather .exe widget.

Hey, wasn't there another news item on top of that an hour ago? Something about WinXP SP2 having problems with Bootskin during upgrade?
I could swear, that I saw this at work and that I even posted in it.

There was but it shoudln't have been posted. BootSkin doesn't have problems with SP2 (in general). Worst case we've seen is that you have to reboot it once after installation.

I'm having one issue with the Core Weather. I've imported it as an Object and it's fine while the PC is running.

After I turn the PC back on after say 8 hours or so, it has reset itself all to defaults. I noticed the widget.exe version did the same for me.

Is there a work around?

Whilst trying to change the location in the Slickweather object, I get the following message: "Invalid procedure call or argument: 'Left'
