Microsoft Releases list of program conflicts with SP2

Microsoft has created a list of many programs that have confirmed problems after installing SP2 for Windows XP.

Also mentioned is BootSkin from Stardock, although it does not list the actual problems.

If I'm not mistaken, Service Pack 2 is a security fix for Windows, not meant to fix conflicts. The general public has been crying for Microsoft to fix security problems (Lock It down) in its Windows Operating System. I believe that Service Pack 2, is going to do just that. If it causes conflicts with other programs as a result then I think that its going to be up to the program manufactures to catch up with Microsoft now.

After installing sp-2 my computer
would not let me log on.I have
bootskin and desktop x. I believe
Bootskin is not compatible with this sp-2 update.I had to reinstall xp.I lost all my registration keys and downloaded
programs.I learned a valuable
lesson.Back up on a separate hard
drive or pay the price!
P.S. Turn Off auto update-do it
manually

It has to be embarrassing for Microsoft to see Microsoft's own products made the list. Unbelievable!

Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaahhh... I think I'll be switching off AutoUpdate for a good long while. I'm sure SP2 does increase security, but turning my 'puter into a door-stop isn't the security upgrade I had in mind. Besides, after doing some reading up on it, it looks like 3rd-party apps do a better job than SP2 anyway. I'll let my 'puter check AutoUpdate after some of the issues have been resolved (and with that many programs having issues, I think MS is going to have to address some of the problems, not only the programs' manufacturers).

Stardock WindowsFX and Sp2 seem not to get along together either. Windows goes into super slow motion and refuses to respond. Then things get nasty. Not good.

I'm not a Mac person at all. I've tried a few other operating systems, OS2 Warp, Linux, DR DOS and Microsoft. Right now I'm sticking with Windows XP. It does everything I need it to do and easier than the other PC operating systems.
I've tried SP2, it doesn't stop me from doing anything, but I had to go through a bunch of stuff every time I visited a few site that I like. Not using it now though.
SP2 was made for those who have never used any 3rd party security programs, the ones who are passing on virus and worms, with 4 billion spy programs installed. And they blame it on Microsoft because Windows doesn't have any security to stop them from being stupid online.

SP2 is not on any of my machines and likely won't be for the forseeable future.
I find it very interesting that MS reports StyleXP as being incompatible (as expected), yet they put a note in the table that announces the updated (freshly hacked?) version. If MS was at all concerned about TGTSoft hacking their system files, they have a funny way of showing it.
Maybe Brad's "rising tide lifts all boats" theory that he described in reference to "Widget Wars" applies here: any app that increases interest in Windows and generates more sales for Microsoft can't be all bad in their eyes.

I haven't had a single problem, even with Bootskin (1.03). I guess I'm just lucky.

The only issue I have had with SP2 is that bootskin does not load immediately. That is I see the microsoft bootscreen for a few seconds before I see my custom boot screen. No big deal really. Oh there is one other thing but it has nothing to do with Stardock stuff. Musicmatch jukebox 8 & 9 freeze up and peak out my CPU for no apparent reason. I had to reinstall version 7 which seems to work just fine

I've got SP2 on two different IBM Thinkpads (T20, T23). It works wonderfully on each. That said...
Having BootSkin running on my T20 slowed EVERYTHING down, even after Windows XP had loaded everything. Returning to the default XP boot restored the system speed.
And I'm not sure what ChasUGC is talking about. Office XP isn't on the list. Maybe they've edited the list, or maybe I'm just blind this morning.

I just installed a new cpu , sp2 installs only halfway now, hurray
