Some thoughts on this year's GUI Olympics entries...

For those who are interested, I've gone through some of the more popular GUI Olympics entries and talked about what makes them special, why they might win, why they might not, and so on. Took quite awhile to do as you can imagine but I wanted to show how much energy the judges are putting into judging these events and show off some of the things about these skins that the casual user may not be aware of.

Very good article. Makes you appreciate even more the outstanding work the judges are doing.
I still can't imagine the enormous amount of work 100+ icons in 12 different sizes represents... Man, it's insane. WOuld take me a year to make them.

That was a good read and an eye-opener. I really appreciate the effort that goes into making WBskins and Icons. A big thumbs up to the judges as well for their hard task.

~ One thing I have to whole-heartedly agree with is the completeness of a skin. It really bothers me when you have a fantastic looking skin but not a complete one. Personally, I like to have quick launch buttons that are actually buttons...not blended into the taskbar and menus that actually use graphics and not just colors. I truly believe that if you're going to make a quality skin...skin EVERYTHING. The majority of the GUIO skins are pretty awesome and of the highest quality and I have the utmost respect for every author for the time and effort spent on them...but...some of my favorites lack the visual goodies I crave. I may use them for a few hours but I end up switching to something that's skinned everything. If the judges are looking for these qualities also, some of the best skins are going to be overlooked.
