Time Warner Cable "DVR"

Now, I do have to add at this point that we stopped off at Best Buy on our way home to look into TiVo. It would be wonderful to have the capability to stop live programing when something comes up while viewing our favorite programs. We spent a long time going over the stuff we would need for it and that there would also be a 13 bucks a month cost just for using TiVo. Ok, now this is all getting expensive. The last thing we want are more bills just for enjoying watching tv. We decided to just forget all about this for the time being and wondered into the stereo section instead and purchased a new receiver and 300 disk Cd player. 
Ok, I will get to my point of this thread now. We get home and I hook up the DVR and we start messing around with it. The first thing that was noticed was that it had picture in picture buttons on the remote. I figure what the heck, press them "figuring that it will do nothing, just buttons for another thing you would have to pay extra for". They worked! Not only picture in picture but you can swap out between the 2 channels and have the other become the larger viewing picture with the sound. My husband is going to love this during Football season.
Looking over the features of the DVR itself it was realized pretty fast that you can pause live programing and it will recored the program for you while you are busy doing something else. Also, any show you have been watching is automatically, temporarily recording and you can rewind at any point during the show and you will not miss anything because it keeps recording. WOW, this is what we wanted to TiVo for. I am so glad we went with the stereo components instead.

No, just have strong fealings toward products. I don't work for Stardock or even personaly know anyone there, but they make great products, and I will endorse them anyday.

TiVo is the best, no doubt. I have an integrated TiVo/DirecTV box it rules. Just to comment on a previous comment - my box has dual input and can record two shows at once. No PIP, but never noticed it. If you have young kids, you need some sort of DVR - I got mine over two years ago, paid the $250 lifetime fee - so now I am in the free and clear.
Now all I to do is wait for the HD TiVo - they announced it in Jan 2003 but haven't shipped any. Some web site I saw said it was one of the biggest tech disappointments of 2003.
All TiVo owners: do a google search on 'Tivo 30 second skip' to learn about that little easter egg.

Rogers isn't renting one. You have to buy it for $599. Welcome to the Canadian Monoply...
If I could rent one, I would. In a heartbeat.
I'm not a TV watcher. I would be if the stuff I liked wasn't on at 3AM.
I like old B&W movies, the 50's & 60's gameshows, history that's only on at night.
Thant's what I'd use it for.
The simpsons are on 13 hours a day. I don't need to save it.
Bummer. Maybe Rogers will smarten up when nobody buys one, and rent them.
Why would you buy technology when you can rent it?
It'll be next to extinct when you get your Visa back, and all but gone by the time you figure out the connections.....

I dont use TVIO or the DVS, I juat have a 120 GB HD and let my ATI ALl in Wonder Video Card record the shows for me at eh times I set, works great... I use manily for DS9 (I am currently working on getting the entire series) and my hockey games. IF you are going to go this way though, a DVD burner is a must....
