Sections in Jeopardy!

Tuesday, February 3, 2004 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

WinCustomize never removes sections. But we do try to keep only a limited number of very active sections available on the home page.

With going on 2.5 million unique visitors per month, we take great care over choosing just the right sections.

The following sections are in jeopardy of losing their home page status (i.e. users would have to click on the [more...] link).

  1. Widgets for SkinStudio
  2. NextSTART
  3. Litestep

The widgets section really is pretty hard core stuff so doesn't really belong on by default.

NextSTART is something we have pushed quite a bit but there have been no new themes uploaded in 2004. If you're a NextSTART skinner, now would be the time to a) submit your themes and help WinStep promote its use to others.

Litestep is an old favorite by many skinners and themers out there. But there's been only two new themes created in 2004 for it. If you're a Litestep advocate, now would be the time to spread the word to help get things going.

We have a couple of sections we'd like to put on deck:

  1. Rainlendar
  2. Samurize
  3. Trillian

Like I said, we don't remove sections but if any of these 3 programs are pulling ahead of the ones already listed on the home page, it's time for them to show that they're still heavily used or step aside and let others come up.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, get rid of LS! It's evil anyways.

Sorry Paul

Umm why not create a program to customize msn messnger? i mean i have to use Reshacker to change the gui of msn messenger, but it's very tedious work. that way ppl can cuztomize their msn and create skins easily. by the way it's sorta easy to change the images. all their are, are .pngs but like i said it's very tedious. thank you for reading this message please contact me if there are any objections.

I think railenders really good, but I don't know what samurize is and trillan = you have to pay for version 2.xx and most skins being made are for that evrsion.

Also, I agree a customize msn messenger program would be sweet.

Also, I'm suprised no one noticed all the girls in grade 7/8 or even lower/higher that talk on msn and use it a lot. I think skins for msn would be wicked too.

Im currently using Trillian 2. If someone make a msn messenger skinning prog that would be awesome! main reason im not using msnm is because its soo ugly and there rarely any good skins for it.

My 2 cents.

Guess I better get the two LS themes I've been working on out the door quickly

I would agree though that it is a slower time lately in the Litestep world. I will drop a mention on the Litestep mailing list though about those folks making better use of the section here.

Hope you don't pull the pin on Litestep too quickly; it would be a shame to take it out of the "popular rotation".

I have to say that the skins in Litestep are pretty impressive. I tried the program about 2 weeks ago but just didn't like it all that much. Would be great to get some of that talent into skinning windowblinds.

I would love it if there was an easy way to find dual or multi monitor walls. I'm not really talking about the previously mentioned programs I know but it's just a suggestion on something that would be helpful. (For me at least)

I would love to see Rainlendar as one of the replacements. To be able to customize MSN Messenger with a neat skin would be a real plus, too.

I would like to see all three: trillian, rainlender, and samurize, as I use all three (mostly dabble with samurize). And I really don't even personally see a point to the skinstudio widgets, but thats just me. I have never tried litestep or nextstep because I have never had the urge (object desktop gets out my customization tendencies).

How about porting the Litestep themes to windowblinds? That would save the loss of the best Litestep themes.

Whoo can't wait to see trillion skins! I'm really tired of the Whistler beta window style skin.

Hey thought the skinstudio would have ability to export to trillian format?

Sounds pretty fair to me, I think our sections should reflect the popularity of applications.
