How to keep the 'boss' happy....

Friday, May 21, 2010 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

The boss [Terry] is 'legally blind'...which means she reads her Fantasy/SF novels with a magnifying glass....

She is such a prolific reader she'll buy at least 2 books at a time...so she has a second one left to read after she gets home from the train trip from the city [we live within about 5k of the CBD...even on a slow walk].

Monday...I ordered a 'Kindle'

Thursday it arrived.

Today [friday] she bought/dl'd 4 books...all not available yet in Australia...for a total saving of around AUD $40 ...and she can read now WITHOUT a magnifying glass....

It's all so good I could probably ask for free-love and beer and pizza for a month and she'd say 'yes'...

Great machines, these thingies....and better still...they don't have a name reminiscent of a feminine hygene product..

I've got the Kindle app on my laptop and my Blackberry. Good stuff.

Get her started on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Currently at 12 books all around 1000 pages. That should keep her in reading material for a while.

That was mighty kind and thoughtful of you. Not needing a magnifying glass is really going to enhance her reading pleasure. I have a bit of experience doing that.

And that's why you'll get the love, beer and pizza for a month  (though it's hygiene)

the fact that you realize she is the "boss" says a lot. women know they rule the roost. they have always been the "boss" and they always will be.

Terry has already bought 4 books....saving about AUD $30 in the process....none is available in Oz yet [on paper]....she finished the first one....faster to do cos easier to see/read.

Needless to say....she's loving it...

I have a couple of friends who are legally blind (vision impaired), and I'm thinking they may also benefit from such a device.  When I am next speaking with them I shall mention it... in case they haven't already heard about the Kindle.

Terry's 'legally blind'...has the card to prove it...[and no driver's licence]...so the Kindle sure beats reading with a magnifying glass [as she usually does]...though word of warning....the 'qwerty' keys at the bottom are bloody small - with pale/small letters - Kindle really dropped the ball there trying to look trendy and understated.

Bloody graphic designers mostly should be shot....

...after you hack off their pony-tails and bash them soundly with a FUNCTION-DEFINES-FORM brick.

Same with my friends... the only wheel I'd trust them behind would be the one on Hey Hey or some such other show.  Gary can't see anything past 2 feet in front of him, Paul is about the same, and Serena probably even less.  Each of them has to use a pretty strong magnifying glass to read anything.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to mention the keyboard when I bring the Kindle up with them.
