IRC and Mail Servers down

Friday, July 4, 2003 by MadIce | Discussion: WinCustomize News

The IRC and mail servers are down. There is some bad wheather near Livonia. Maybe the two events are connected and let's hope it doesn't ruin their 4th of July party.

That means you might have trouble with IRC (chatting), newsgroups, support, ordering and retrieving your serial numbers.

The guys are probably working on it right now.

We apologize for any invonvenience this may cause.

Yep. Huge storm in Michigan. Wrecked my brand new landscaping too and destroyed my kid's playscape.

FrogBoy please do everything you can to make the best out of the rest of the Holiday.

I hope your homeowners insurance takes care of this for you.

Sorry to hear you're having such severe weather. Bad timing hitting on a national holiday.

Maybe these guys are on to something:

Withdrawels again. First it was my computer and now it's the servers. >

Thanks for the post MadIce. Nice to know it's not my mail server for a change!

Sorry to hear about the weather. Hope it's better today.

It's been some 20 hours now (10am EST) and they still don't have the power back. There's another line of storms on the way, so this may persist until Sunday if we're unlucky.

I don't recommend Livonia Michigan as a city for having a business in. Heck, as bad as it is for the company to have been without power a full day now, imagine if you lived there? Talk about wrecking the 4th of July weekend. And it's quite hot out.

Frogboy lives in Canton with power thankfully.

Melanie: They have no power. I would imagine any servers (newsgroups is included here) hosted on site are down. Wincustomize is hosted elsewhere and so is still up and running.

Services should now be restored (at least IRC, news and mail are now online).

Let's hope that the hamster doesn't get tired or that they don't forget to feed it.

I am camping at Stardock with "Mr. Kubota" the generator. It's just like camping...ut indoors, with running water, a computer and a TV....so it's really not like camping at all. I plan on staying up late and watching scary movies....probably not a good idea since I'm at the office with no lights, but I'm doin' it anyway! Current ETA on power being restored in Livonia- late Sunday evening. (insert sound of KarmaGirl whimpering here....)

KarmaGirl:

Thanks for your sacrifice.

oops, maybe I shouldn't have phrased it like that if it's a bit scary!

As of 1:30pm EST or so, power has been restored and all servers and services should be fully operational. If not, email [email protected] and I'll see what needs to be kicked.

Thank you Mr. Kubota (he insists on being called that, not just a generic "the generator") for your interim help. And a big round of applause for KarmaGirl and her better half (Jeff) for wiring him up and keeping vigil through the night.

Anyone called 'Kubota' must be preceded with a 'Mr.'...the Japanese are polite to a fault....
Though, Karma.....what's hubby's opinion of your shacking up with this Nipponese gentleman over the weekend?....

Looks like we have the same problem again as we had on the 4th.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we might have another power failure.
