Mac vs. PC at Business!

Tuesday, May 27, 2003 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Despite the Mac's deserved rep as a good choice for creative types, I have yet to fine a decent, low-end, FrontPage-equivalent OS X program for creating Web sites. Nor are there any good mapping programs, a particular interest of mine. All the Norton antivirus and security apps are available, the Norton Utilities, too. Dantz Retrospect (also available for Windows) is my favorite backup application.

So says David Coursey from ZDNet. Check out the full article for more info.

It seems to me that he needs to define exactly what "low end" means. Given Frontpage's cost and featureset I wouldn't necessarily call it "low end" HTMLKit or Homesite might technically be considered "low end" (realistically closer to mid range). But what would the competing product be on Mac? GoLive, does Dreamweaver run on OS-X?

Frontpage isn't that great, but I think I know what he is saying.

I still want a MAC though. I need diversity

Who needs antivirus software for OS X, Linux, or any other UNIX? UNIX is more secure by nature than Windows plus most viruses are designed to target Windows systems.

Anything that can be done in Windows can be done in UNIX as well.

OS x looks great and you can run preaty much all the software you can run on windows including Dreamweaver and Flash - But!!! There is a big but... How much do you need to spend on new Mac machine and how much on equaly fast PC? If you shop around you can easily end up with x86 "render farm" for the price of decent Mac system... Value for muney is the main issue here I think...

Yes Macs are more expensive than PCs. If you want an alternative for Windows, then a Linux PC is much cheaper.

With a mac you cant look at it as a 1.4ghz pc and a 1.4ghz mac the mac will be 4 times faster than that because they have different chip makers so when you think about it price is the same. a 3.2 ghz pc for 3000$ or a 1ghz g4 for the same. Nothing diff. But u all need to know this stuff about the mac so there u go.
