WinCustomize subscriber goodies!

Wednesday, October 2, 2002 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Lots of goodies for subscribers.

First: The first WinCustomize subscriber premium suite is now available. Here's a screenshot: https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/odnt-oct02a.jpg. This suite includes a WindowBlinds visual style by Alexandrie. A ObjectBar theme (with hotkey support) by me. And a full icon suite by Paul Boyer that makes full use of Windows XP alpha blending (it's awesome).

Second: A new release candidate of the WinCustomize skin browser is now available for subscribers. The new version is vastly faster at browsing the libraries thanks to a new method of retrieving the info. This is definitely an update to get.

Third: There is now a resources box in the lower left side of the page here that gives subscribers a fast way to access the software and other content as well as having links for software and soon a tutorial.

Have fun! BTW, the skin in this preview shot is XP Corona by Alexandrie (https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=2850).

I don't really know how to say this, but I'm going to try! First let me say that I am a subscriber to WC, I have been since day one and will renew in two years. I subscribe not for the goodies; Browser, Skins, ads, but to help this site in some way. With that being said here is a screen of the suite that was done for DeviantART subscribers last week:

Now here is a screen of the suite done for WinCustomize subscribers:

Be honest with yourself, if you are looking to subscribe to a skinning site, where are you going to put your money...

i hate to say this but Bill is right,

look at the 2 skins top one looks so professional

and 2nd is so tacky looking, especially that green wallpaper no offense

Thats really not my taste in skins

after i found out it was released i expected all the skins, was really looking forward to that carbon looking skin treetog made his skins are awesome

but when i seen that dull blue one i thought, is that it?

and the fact it was winstyle skin i dont mind that but if there was an option for seperate files like *.wba *.iptheme aswell as etc

as only reason i dont use winstyles is i prefer to change the themes myself not WinStyles

So hopefully better things will come

Sorry but I like both.

And people seem to be competely blowing off the icons which required considerable effort.

I might also point out that WC is $20 for TWO years and you also get the skin browser. dA is $30 per year.

I happen to like the wb skin and the icon package. As for the wallpaper, I rarely use the one shown in any screenshot with a wb skin - I like to search until I find one that is perfect for my taste. I don't use object bar (yet).

It is offensive to me the way that some people are complaining and being overly critical of the work put in to these pieces. If you don't like it, don't use it. How about giving some appropriate credit to the artists.

I think my subscription is most worthwhile. I have not found another site that provides such wonderful skins, themes, wallpapers. Thanks to all who make this a great site.

Well, I speak up when things irritate me, but I do the same when things are good too, so hey, nice work Stardock! RC2 installed *over* RC1 for me with no problem this time, and automatically performed the updates to the libraries on it's first execution. Version number is correct, and preview images work! Also, I'm encouraged by the word of the new server, and also by the deployment of the premium skin(s). Not every skin is everyone's favorite, but I'm assuming this is just the first of what will be others. Personally, I like it, and the bonus is a good one. Two thumbs up this time guys/gals.

Call me stupid, but exactly how do I get this skinsuite? I'm in the wincustomize browser right now and cannot see it anywhere

I knew I should have kept my big trap shut! Even while typing I had a feeling this would be taken the wrong way. I am not complaining or trying to induce a complain-a-thon. I am very happy with my subscription to WC no matter the perks that are offered.

The Icons are quite snazzy, and I overlooked them. My apologies.

The point I was trying to make is that for people who are the fence about subscriptions this might not have been the best thing to put up first. It has to be hard to sell subscriptions, especially with the free beer types so pervasive and vocal. That seems to me to indicate there are limited dollars to be spread around the various sites. With that in mind I think the DA offering would do more to move people off the fence and subscribe.

Oh I like this! Easy install. And I love the desktop menu! I was getting set to grumble when my object bars changed, but I think I am really going to like the new set up. I have to explore. Thanks for this suprise treat!

As for the skin, I like that too. The black one was also nice; however, I find that I usually only leave a dark one on a little. Then I change to something light. It is easier on my eyes! And this is only the first one after all...

I don't have much $$$, and I made a decision that one of the luxuries I would afford myself until things got better was the windowblinds. Then I got OD. I like the stardock products, I like the site, I think the people are great, and I had no problem with getting the browser. The whole concept is a lot more than just a pretty skin. Thanks for everything!

One thing about the custom desktop menu and the one you get if you hold down Ctrl-A -- they automatically inherit the WindowBlinds skin you're using.

Another thing about the Ctrl-A menu... It gives me privacy! Quicken and some other things can be accessible to me and not to snoops!

A big feeling of relief!

Excellent All works on Win2K as well, looking forward to seeing this on my XP box at home.

Love the Objectbar theme too - Not something I normally use at work but I think this one will stay
