WiFi problems

i have never used wifi before so have no idea how to work it - i thought it wld connect me automatically. as you can see it isnt connected to the web, can anyone advise me plz?
its a tp-link pci wi fi card by the way

i have tried 4 times now to post a bigger image but no joy - basically i am trying to connct to o2 wifi but in newtworks it says local connection only
my 3g connects happily local and internet but not the wifi

Are you sure your wireless adaptor driver is up to date?

That picture is really small, and when I zoom, I it's all blurry. Can you post a bigger screenshot?
I have a Toshiba laptop and mine connects automatically, but my daughter has some problems with XP laptop, so she uses this free software to find the best connection: http://www.wefi.com/
