Oh I'm so excited! May is going to be great! Spiderman AND Star Wars this month. Which has the advantage? There's an interesting story on that.

Oh, I don't think there is any comparitoin possible. Star Wars all the way. Come on. Some cartoon caracter against a classic in modern cinema? Why not Scooby Doo while you're at it? 
I'm going to see Star Wars for sure, but Spiderman will wait till it's out in the video stores.

spider man was a comic book character before he was a live action 70's show and that was before he was a cartoon...
besides, you're telling me you'd rather risk seeing jar jar binks again (yes he's in the second one) and george lucas' "hey, i'll make a movie for my kids, not for the fans" over a super hero torn between helping everyone and hanging up the tights because it's killing his aunt?
give me personal conflict over a snot-nosed brat with a light saber anyday...
now, if it was "star wars: samuel l jackson, jedi badass", that'd be another story...

IMHO,
I am eager to see Spider Man – I was hesitant when I first heard that they were doing it but from what I have seen and read I think they just might of given it justice.
I think Star Wars is going to be a let down. The new "Episodes" seem so watered down with special effects - almost like how can we model the movie so that we can make video games out of it. In my opinion the first trilogy was far more of an adventure to wait for just with the story line alone. I’ll wait for the DVD on this one I mean come on... Anakin and Obewan driving in a hovercraft high up through the city and then Anakin jumps out of the craft thousands of feet in the sky and the only thing Obewan can say is "I hate it when he does that". HELLO? One-liners that bad should only be said by Dolph Lungrin or Steven Segal!
In my opinion the ones to watch for will be The Matrix: Reloaded and the next Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.

hear hear on the matrix..... I've been waiting for that one. As for star wars, it has completely lost its path..... with the first three that came out, we followed luke on his journey to heroism. This was more like a king arthur story than the ones that are coming out now. The scenes jump around too much from time period to time period and we don't get to see any of the hero's journey..... because after all, that is what all great movies and literature are based on... even lotr and the matrix. Both lotr and matrix follow the heroes journey/monomyth to a T... if you don't believe me, just do a search for matrix, ubermensch, and monomyth, then have fun reading about this stuff. And of course, let me remind everyone that the best stories come from books, not cinema, so if you haven't read lotr...... freakin read it, its great. If you like the whole star wars and fantasy thing too, I suggest you deviate from the crappy star-wars rip off books that are put out simply for commercialization of a great story, and read something like le morte d'arthur (no its not in french) or the once and future king or the crystal cave. These books are incredibly good, and trust me.... you'll thank me (or curse me) when you don't want to sleep because you're so into the books.....
In short: Movies good. Sequels Bad. Books rule.

Yeah. LOTR was awesome. The book is even better. Cant wait for the second part to it.

Still surviving from before the 1970's because he is always struggling with the fact that he ignored to help catch the purse snatcher that later killed his Uncle Ben, and people like stories where the character deals with real-life problems.
People also like Star Wars. I guess because it basically deals with the future of technology. But too many special effects and it doesnt have an ending.. They keep making new Episodes and pretty soon, it will be a Series on FOX.
Honestly, I imagine Star Wars will bring in more money than Spiderman, because people are still living on the fact that they might actually be able to see technology like that in their lifetime. But it will have a problem beating LOTR.

I sure hope they trim down the red and blue. If you've ever seen those ancient Spiderman/Captain America movies, you know bright colours may be fine in the comics but are horrible on screen. No wonder they toned down the yellow/blue of the X-Men to black-ish (sellouts!!).
Problem is though, that Spidey's not that interesting a character. Too one-dimensional. Wolverine has more potential.

I must say I am too much familiar with the Spiderman character, I watched to caroon on TV a few times when I was a kid, and that's about it.
So I was surprised - and dispointed - when I watched the previews and saw that in the movie Spiderman is just a kid, some college student... Shouldn't it be Spiderboy then?
No seriously, was Spiderman from Marvel comics really a college boy? For some reason I though he was the same age as Batman or Superman... Or is that just a Hollywood adaptation in order to appeal to the younger crowd who are the largest movie goers?

In the commic books, Spider-Man initially was a high school student. As for his bright red and blue costume. it initially was red and black. The blue was used to imply lighting and form to the costume. Eventually though the artists used more and more blue until it became the costume we're all familiar with.

They should've used the black costume. But that would impy explaining its actually an alien and such. Complexity galore.
And yeah, Peter "Spiderman" Parker, is (currently) one of those perpetual students. Not sure where the movie starts though.

Hum. I see, so Spiderman was indeed a teen in the original comics.
The special effects look nicely done, but otherwise IMO it looks stupid. Oh, I'll see it for sure, but for 4$ at the video store, certainly not for 12$ at the theaters.

Well, I just saw Spider-Man. It was really good. Not perfect but still great fun (except for the two screaming babies in the theater GRRR...) Its the most faithful movie adaption of a superhero comic I've seen.

I too have just seen Spidey. I thought it was very good. It had a couple "questionable" spots but over all I thought it was good. I will also be seeing SW:AOTC. As for the draw, I believe SW will win the battle due to a larger following.

As for advantage, I dunno, I imagine Star Wars will be a larger draw overall, but I don't think one movie excludes the other, rather they compliment each other. They both appeal to the same crowd who'll shell out money to see both. Makes for a great month.
Heck, I saw LOTR:FOTR 4 times and I'll probably see each of these multiple times as well.
