Here's a bit: "Logitech was first to market with a mouse that was both wireless, and optical. Their wireless MouseMan Optical is to date one of my favourite mice thanks to its ergonomic design, cordless convenience, and precision control. But just because Logitech got the jump on Microsoft didn't mean they had won the game just yet, so it was no surprise that Microsoft would come tearing down the peripherals straightaway with the Porsche of cordless mice: the all-new Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer."

Just got my Logitec wireless MouseMan Optical a few days ago and absolutely have fallen in love with it. Wouldn't trade it in for any mouse, even Microsoft's clone.

Why do I always read reviews that Logitech was the first to make an optical mouse? I was using an optical mouse in 1996 on my Sun Solaris machine and I'm sure they had optical mice out before then. Does "first to market" mean Logitech was the first to mass produce optical mice and sell to PC users? I've never been able to understand that.

Jim - optical mice have been around in drafting for a long time. It's the "cordless" optical mouse that logitech was first with.
I love mine too but it is really picky what the surface looks like. aA repeating patern will mess it up, shiny surface, solid color, printed dot screens etc. all make it hang up. And the batteries only last about a month
Why don't they put an "on-off" button on it? The blinking red light is always on...

I'm more than happy with my MS Explorer Optical...
BTW, I think the first optical mice were made for Amigas....
