However, the author shows his ignorance regarding Hi-Fi cabling. I don't know that mains product, it being foreign, but clean mains power makes a massive difference to sound quality. So does high quality cabling.

Honestly, you spend £10,000.00 on amplification then stick a 50p plug into a cheap plastic wall socket. Or use 25pppm cable from Tandy. Yeah, right...

The other thing they didn't know was that he was gentle as a kitten and wouldn't harm anyone/anything.  He was a bloody good actor, though.

If your refering to the "Monster" brand cable, the point the author is trying to make is that the Monster brand name make the price for the cable double over a cable of equal quality. An exact same quality 6 foot HDMI cable can be found for less than $50.00 (American), but add the "Monster" brand name and you will pay more than $100.00.

As for the WattGate audio power outlet, I really doubt that changing your electrical power cord connectors to gold plated would make that enough of a differance to be worth a $300.00 price tag. (not only is the wall outlet socket is required, the power cord plug has to be changed as well...at $150.00 each).

You would do a better job cleaning the noise out of the power by using a UPS.

You're spot on there, Karen.  My rotty would never have used such an item - sexually or to assert his dominance - so it would have sat collecting dust in a cupboard somewhere doing nothing.  I think that's why it was listed in the worst (most useless) gadgets list, cos anyone with half a brain knows it would serve no useful purpose... for a dog, that is.

Yeah, the leg humping thing was just a bit of tongue-in-cheek to add a bit of fun, nothing more.  I must admit, though, I really miss Nelson... he was the bestest dog ever, well trained and so lovable to boot.  Sadly, we had to move interstate, which upset his routine, etc, and that, I believe, gave some low-life *@%!&!*% the opportunity to steal him from the yard while we were out one day.

For HDMI cable the Chord Active at £115 ($200US?) is a best buy for a high end system.
Though most would settle for the Chord Supershield at £50

For power, the Kimber LoPowercord at £75 is the best.

A seperate spur from the mains is a must if you are really serious though.

A UPS will create noise not lower it.

If you know what you are doing with electronics, you can solder VDRs to plugs as a cheap solution.
