Tuesday, December 15, 2009 by Haulero | Discussion: Skinning

Hello guys, I'm new here and I would like to change the boot (not logon) screen, I've been browsing here and I see really cool skins but how do I install them? when I try to open them it says its a .zip file... ok so then what? LogonStudio don't have an option to change boot skin, it only have option to change logon screen, what program do I need to change the boot skin? thanks

Haulero,
Okay what you need to do is download the BootSkin application which can be found here https://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/.
Install it and run it.

As for .zip files use PeaZip portable, which can be found here; http://peazip.sourceforge.net/. Install and run (Peazip can also read .Rar files which is convienient).

Drop and drag the .zip file onto the open Peazip and then drag the skin file into your documents or where ever you like.

I am sure you can handle it from there!

I hope that helps.

Feel free to ask more if you need.

BootSkin XP Download Alternative Versions

Some drivers and bios makers "break the rules" which can cause Bootskin XP to not work correctly. If you experience that, you can remove Bootskin XP by deleting \windows\system32\drivers\vidstub.sys. And then try one these alternative versions.

Thank you guys for your help, I got it working now skinboot works great!... Logon skin its good but I wish it could be perfect lol I mean, by sefault, the logon screen in windows xp is blue. ok, so when you fist start your computer right before your logoskin displays you see blue screen or when you switch users you see blue screen (just plain blue) before your logoskin. it would be great if you don't see this color. I don't know if you know what I mean lol and when shutting down, you see your logon skin but you don't see the messages " saving your setting.....windows is shutting down" but overall is good can't be perfect I guess

My pleasure Haulero.
I sympathise with you here; it does indeed get a bit "bland" after some time.
I understand what you are saying, however, I am not knowledgeable in this area and I can not help you I am sorry.

If your intentions are possible, I am sure someone in the tutorials forum may know, if not, you will have to get used to the blue I am afraid.

Best of luck in your search.
