How to get Impulse to work correctly ?
Friday, November 20, 2009 by neophil78 | Discussion: Object Desktop
I'd like to know how it is possible to run that #´&$£ Impulse program to run correctly ![]()
DeskScapes 3 is not shown as avaible, DesktopX4 is not shown as avaible, MyColors Ankh desktop still bringing "error retieving data" (and maybe some others errors ...)
I think i've tried everything: reset data / clearing usage data in Impulse, uninstall Impulse, reboot, then reinstall with the full installer, (same result), uninstall Impulse, reboot, then reinstall with the online installer (same result) ...
Did the same also with DeskScapes, DesktopX, MYColors
Though, anymore suggestions before i through the PC throw the window ? ![]()

Try closing Impulse and running the following file:
http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/fix_registrations.reg
Make sure to follow the link in Internet Explorer, as other web browsers will not handle the file type correctly. Once you follow the link, save the file and double click it to apply it. Then relaunch Impulse. You will need to re-login with your username/e-mail (either will work) and password.

Ok but i just noticed it ask for a new account which needs a password with minimum 8 digits
. I entered i'm already registred with my login and my password and then still same trouble in Impulse
What am i supposed to do ? (impulse is already installed on other PC - with which everything is OK )
N.B: BTW, for DeskScapes, i get DeskScapes 3 installed ... (when i updated firstly to DeskScapes 3, Impulse told me that DeskScapes had to be uninstalled, though it did and i rebooted the PC. I succeed to install DeskScapes 3 - as it was listed in the avaible applications - then, i rebooted, launched DeskScapes3 (installed in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DeskScapes3) which runs OK, but when launching Impulse, DeskScapes 3 is NOT listed as avaible ...)
N.B.2: If i restore a DeskScapes V 2, after the reboot, i get DeskScapes (V2.92 Beta 107) listed with an update avaible (V2.92 Beta 110) and if i try to update i get "error: The beta application you are attemting to download/register is not avaible"

Uninstall what you have installed for DeskScapes and then reboot your PC. Upon reboot, open up Impulse and click the 'My Software' tab. Click on DeskScapes. At the bottom of Impulse, it should say version v.3.00 (11/18/2009). Double click to download/install. Once DeskScapes is installed, the status will change from Available to Installed.
If you continue to have trouble, open up an offical support ticket with us by sending an email to [email protected]

Nope it does not, it says DeskScapes V2.92 beta (19/11/2009) size 54,96 MB
Official support asked by mail linking this thread

Well it's not only a personnal support ticket that is needed, i just had the bad idea to verify installation of MyColors on another XP SP3 PC. ![]()
"Application is badly installed, update it", though i did, and after the reboot i had exactly the similar trouble as mentioned
Just to be sure i also did the same on a third PC and same result ...
In fact there's a big glitch between Impulse, MyColors, applications linked to MyColors and troubles are coming depending (i think) on how MyColors had been installed (before or after WB for instance ...)
If tou had the bad idea to install DeskScapes3, reboot, then verify installation of MyColors and do the update asked for it, everything's broken in Impulse, other apps are then needing updates (Iconpackager, WB ), DeskScapes 3 is not listed as installed but DeskScapes is listed as "Previous version installed" ...
Everything's is upside down
Though i think Stardock have to look at this trouble and give a fix (maybe on Impulse, maybe on MyColors, maybe on both) which will be avaible for everyone (at least XP users)

This also happens with me. Just today Deskscapes had mysteriously disappeared, for the second time. It said, once I unhid it, that the previous version was installed. I did as before, installed the new version and then about 3 hours later I opened Impulse and it was the same story. I had to reinstall it again. I would think this thread would serve as a "Class Action Suport Ticket" rather than each of us starting a ticket. Makes sense to me.

In kind of way, glad to see i'm not the only one, which means it's really a big glitch in Impulse and / or MyColors (i think these are the two concerned)
N.B: it also get a similar trouble showing or not DesktopX 4 update avaible ...

Honestly? MyColors is problematic. I've given up on it along with my beloved Pirate theme.
I'd like to download it and just use the WB and/or the widgets (after all, I did purchase it), but Impuse refuses to do so unless MyColors is installed....and I'm not doing that again.

I share your anguish NeoPhil(although in my case just SOME of my paid older apps & packages do not show)but I AM sure force fed on the NEW versions....I DO so miss the old reliable StardockCentral(can't even specify WHICH screen one wishes to have pop up on load w Impulse - one MUST see the lastest game releases to the exclusion of ANY other option)...

well Wiz...THAT is HOW it functions on MY laptop(following NUMEROUS attempts to prompt the app to do otherwise)...so I fail to see how my statement is 'INCORRECT'....(I am most certainly acquainted with the 'last tab used' memory function)....

Old Data. DeskScapes 3 final version has been released. Try resetting Data.

Yes. MyColors and WindowBlinds/IconPackager share registry keys, which will point to whichever is the last installed. ALWAYS install WindowBlinds/IconPackager AFTER MyColors. This is also why when you verify MyColors after installing one of these two apps it will ALWYS fail, and vice versa.
You will not be able to install MyColors themes through Impulse without having MyColors installed. This is done to make sure that you have the application needed to apply the themes.

OK but this is also (apparently) why i get the silly error on DeskScapes 3 listed as installed or DeskScapes listed as "Previous version installed" ...
(+ DesktopX 4 beta not listed ...)

No. You'll get this if you still have te beta installed. Impulse should update this to DeskScapes 3 for you.

Nope i say it again: i get the error and DeskCapes 3 is really installed (that's why i say there's a big glitch between Impulse, MyColors, and probably component programs of MyColors also installed - and while i get the same problems on 3 different PC's running XP SP3 (french, perhaps an importance ??) with different graphic cards, and programs running on startup, this problem can't be on my side (see also "skyzyk reply #9 who have the same problem ...)

Typical example of the issue: i just launched Impulse ==> SkinStudio 7 Pro Update avaible is then listed and in same time DeskScapes 3 is now listed as installed as well as DeskopX 4 update avaible.
I update SkinStudio 7, close Impulse, reboot, re launch Impulse ==> everything's appear's to be correct, BUT if i have the bad idea to check if MyColors is installed correctly, it will say NO and that i've to update it ... if i do the update, then reboot, then re launch Impulse, DeskScpaes 3 will not be listed anymore as installed and instead DeskScapes will be listed as "a previous version was installed", DesktopX4 update won't be displayed as avaible and instead DesktopX is listed as installed, and finally if i check the WindowBlinds 7 installation, it will say it is not correctly installed, if i update (again) WB7, then reboot, then re launch Impulse, it will be again MyColors which will be said as not correctly installed if checked ... and so on ... (that's what happened ten's of time to me, and on the 3 PC's, though i won't check to verify MyColors installation
)

That would be my next suggestion
You've probably already done this but make sure to disable all anti-virus/antispyware etc. I had major issues with Defender (until I stopped using it) screwing with installs.
