Well Known Site Ripping Our Work!!!

PDJ's cursor gallery?

Monday, October 26, 2009 by RedneckDude | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Hey guys,

I got an email today from Softpedia.com telling me that they are hosting some of my cursors, as well as showcasing via links to my cursors here at WC. Blew me away, to say the least.

I'm sure this happens, so I wanted to ask for opinions here.  Should I be happy, or upset? Is this extra exposure, or exploitation?

After further digging, I find there are a bunch of us there. If you get to a page that says Developers page, it'll link to WC. But the product finder on the home page will find links to download your work from their site!!!

We don't like the idea of going around their/your back, that's why we search for each producer's email. If we do find it, they receive a notification message.

You forgot ther part that says "If we can't find a way to contact them, we fucking post it anyway because we fucking can! In fact, we don't even wait for a response, because we don't fucking care and we fucking post it anyway!"

Please add that so I can post the entire piece of crap on every skinning site I belong to and then some.

I think there are hunderds of download websites out there that never notify producers when they pubish their work,

Like the ones you claim you can't find emails for?!?!?!?!?

You want respect, you gotta give it. You wait for a response. THAT shows you respect the artist. You can't contact them. you DON'T post it. THAT shows respect for the artist.

Calling yourself the lesser of two evils doesn't make it right.

Nozavi, Senior IT Manager Softpedia has been a member here since Feb 2008 and CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONTACT THE SKINNERS WHOSE ART THEY POST!?!?!?!!?!!? IS THIS RIGHT? If so, you're worse than a Troll or a lurker. How many other softpedia trolls are scouting for art to steal? YOU'RE the one that PERSONALLY responded to Vampothikas letter, YOU'RE a 'member' of this site for over a year...but you can't figure out how to contact the artists!!!!!

I'm so freakin' steamed...I'd kiss skinhits ass if it would get you permantly banned from the site.

Very interesting, might be nice to hear the explaination, or not.

Misinterpretation 1: I'm a member because a while back I had a question to ask and needed an account to post it. Haven't used this account since then, because I'm not a frequent user of WC.
Misinterpretation 2: The content on Softpedia was not posted by me, as you can see I'm not an editor, so my membership is, once again, not relevant.
Misinterpretation 3: I've answered to her letter because I'm one of the people who offer users feedback when they have a problem, not WC users in particular.

Anyway... I don't intend to 'fuel' this flame, so... As I've said before, if anyone feels that having their work posted on Softpedia is not their benefit, they can have it removed with a single email. Any further details can also be politely discussed there. Thank you! Over and out.

1. You have been a member here for some time.

2. Anyone enjoying that status (and even posting here about Desktop X) should have seen how sensitive the Artists are about their work, and it's accreditation.

3. You could have notified the members/Artist's involved using the email/pm system in place here at Wincustomize, so your explanation does not hold water.

4. In essence, therefore you have violated the TOS of Wincustomize, by taking Art and putting it on your site without contacting the Artist who were easily within reach.

You KNOW where the art being posted is coming from on the site YOU work for.

The content on Softpedia was not posted by me, as you can see I'm not an editor, so my membership is, once again, not relevant.

Bullshit. See above.

I've answered to her letter because I'm one of the people who offer users feedback when they have a problem, not WC users in particular.

And you would have to check with the editor before responding so you could respond properly unless that was just a form letter you dorkwads spit out for just such an occassion. It's obviously not the FIRST one you have ever issued.. so knowing where some of the graphics that you post  are coming from ......a site YOU are a member of...at the very least 'familiar' with...you could have opened your cakehole and spoke the fuck up, lacky.

I'm so freakin' steamed...I'd kiss skinhits ass if it would get you permantly banned from the site.

I take it back. It's an insult to skinhit.

I would kiss the fattest part of Glenn Becks big white ass if it would get you permantly banned.

Since you're so fucking nonchalant about the whole thing and feel no responsibility to the community, you should go away.

Fuckin eh! As the drone responsible for dealing with 'user feedback' (BTW, she probably wasn't a user until you stole her fucking work and posted it without her permission at which point she was forced to contact you) you don't even offer to speak on behalf of the artists here to see if policy could be changed or anything.

I don't think I have ever said this in a thread and it may cost me, but Fuck You!

Nozavi

...
Over and out.

That is incorrect useage of those terms in the context you used them.
The term is EITHER:
Over (indicating that the person transmitting requires or is awaiting a response).
OR
Out (indicating that the person tramsmitting no longer requires or expects a reply).

I figure since everyone else is ragging on about content,
and I have none here on WC, only my Overlays and a couple of small things on the site I Admin,
I'd set the record straight on the above mentioned term.
The "over and out" crap came from some Hollywood creampuff who figured it sounded more dramatic for the movies.
It is however technically incorrect.
So there.

M-203 out...

Er, no... You should contact the artist before displaying their work.

Your flagrant disregard for people's intellectual property is astonishing.

Softpedia has just become a must visit site... NOT.   I occasionally went there to read tech news and such, but me thinks Cnet will be the site of choice for that from here on.

Did some pirate and Medieval icons a while back... I wonder if they're up there as well.  Might have to mosey on over to sheck/seek their removal should they be posted... obviously without my knowledge/prior consent.
