May have lost all my work......I need your help
Monday, October 26, 2009 by 2of3 | Discussion: Community
Ok call me stupid for not backing up my files properly!
My external hard drive where I keep all my graphics just went on the floor and said boom!
As of now I can't read anything off it and it's making funny noises. There is a possibility that I can get someone to extract the files off the HD, but I'm not sure.
Here's where some of you can help me out: I know that I have sent .zipped files containing all the images for certian skins to people.
If you are one of those, please say so here in case I'm unsucsessfull in retrivinng the data from the damaged HD.
My email addy is: tirillsdad@gmail.com
I am just kicking my own ass over this and have learned a valuable lesson
UPDATE:
I (through the help of my great friends here at WC) have now fully recovered base graphics for:
Assimilation V2
ZubaZ
Fools Gold
Solid State
I have partial (the most important bits) for:
SDN
Magnetek
My WIP Softer
Thanks again to my friends that have helped me out

Anything you have uploaded here will be here....and [usually] even anything you subsequently deleted....
Let me know if I can help there...
Reply #5 Monday, October 26, 2009 8:49 AM
Wow! Sorry to hear that. What does that mean for "Softer?"
Reply #6 Monday, October 26, 2009 8:54 AM
Gee, Tim...so sorry this happened to you! There are data recovery services you can use if there's more on the HDD than your graphics...
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/
I'm pretty sure I saved everything you ever sent me...and more than glad to send back. They are skins you've already published and can retrieve with Jafo's help (nice of you to respond so quickly!)...but if there's anything I can do to help, just say the word!
You can download your skins and retrieve graphics that way too...which is Captain Obvious's contribution for today... maybe make you smile a little?
"Softer" (Vista) is on it's way to you as I write this, Master Tim!

Vogons are one of the most unpleasant races in the galaxy. Not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, officious and callous. They wouldn't even lift a finger to save their own grandmothers from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal without orders signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. The best way to get a drink out of a Vogon is to stick your finger down his throat, and the best way to irritate him is to feed his grandmother to the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. On no account should you allow a Vogon to read poetry to you.

Thanks for adding a bit of humor to this. I really needed that!

Oh man! That blows bigtime Tim! I would imagine that as along as the disc inside that drive isn't damaged itself you should be able to recover anything that was on it somehow. I hope you can.
Did a google search and maybe this information can help you http://www.google.com/search?q=recovering+data+from+a+dropped+hard+drive&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Wow that really sucks. On the plus side now I dont feel so foolish about saving anything really important to both of my external backup drives.

I used to have all my stuff on 2 as well. As chance would have it, I cleaned all my skinning stuff off the other so that my wife could use it!

Tim, I have sent the softer blind and the Draft psd for softer. I will see what else I have, you have magnetek covered, it seems. I'll go ahead and send anything I find from you and if you get doubles, all the better.
