Drawbacks for upgrading or not upgrading?

Just kidding, I'm waiting on my pre-ordered Win 7 64 bit upgrade.  Everything that I have read here or on the internet indicates that if you upgrade to Win 7, you will never look back.

I've been using the RC since it came out and I LOVE IT! 

I have it dual-booted with Vista Home Premium on one computer and XP on another!

I'm waiting impatiently for my 7 disks to arrive.

Even though I have been using the 32 bit Win 7 RC

I have finally decided to go with the 64 bit, as it is the future

even though I only have 3 Gb of ram and this computer only can take 4 Gb max.

Waiting for my upgrade disc to arrive also. You'd think with preordering it back in July that it wouldn't take a week after the release date to get here ..Anyways... interested to see what others say about it before my disc gets here as I have yet to decide if I'm going to use it right away or not.

Yes there are. Not any major ones though... The only one I can think of is that there are some nre features to get used to.

Are there skins for it yet? I ordered my "7"copy from NewEgg yesterday and it'll be here tomorrow! I tried it on another PC and it's GREAT! Lot's better than Vista; it has a smooth feel to it, seems to load faster, etc.

Installed Win 7 Home Premium x64 last night/early hours of this morning.... definitely the best OS Microsoft has ever released.

I'm currently in Vista cos I still have all my apps and etc to load in Win 7, but once that is done it will be my primary OS and I can say bye-bye to dual booting on my main rig... Vista x64 will occupy the rig I'm building, and Vista Ultimate 32 bit will share the XP rig I'm keeping as a spare.  Nah, I'm not ready to say bye-bye to XP just yet... comes in handy when visitors need to use a PC

yep, looks like Vista and has the same horribly unintuitive explorer structure.

A guest (spare) PC comes in handy when you have company over. I have one with a fresh XP SP3 install that all are free to use. Once every month or so I restore the back up just in case.

It's not only handy as a 'guest' spare, but as a backup for when issues arise with your main rig... as happened to me just recently.  My main rig mysteriously refused to post and was out of action for a week in the shop... turns out nothing was really wrong and I could have resolved it myself, but I've had several medical appointments and other stuff to deal with first.  Oh well, while it was there I got a newer mobo put in with 2 extra SATA ports and 4 extra USB's... rig seems to run even faster now (doing away with IDE and going all SATA) and Win 7 simply flies along.

Thing is, I will have a second spare, though it is higher end than the XP box (Vista x64/8gb RAM/AMD Athlon 6400 @ 3.2ghz) and will be used more as a workhorse for video recording/editing while I'm busy doing other stuff on my primary rig.

Yup got a desktop here that still has XP on it and don't see any reason to bother upgrading it since I basically kept it planning on tossing it in the closet as a backup but now use it to watch Netflix online, Hulu, Dvds, and listen to music. XP works fine with all that and with its new permanent V O X theme setup there's no reason to change anything on it.

But did buy the upgrade disc for the Vista laptop, no sense not to when it was only $50,  which is hooked up to the other desktop monitor and kb most of the time. But I've never had any problems with Vista so I think when the disc gets here I'll see what kind of experience you all are having with 7 and decide then if I'll upgrade right away or not.

ok well i have turned very green with envy, luckily a good friend has bought me a copy of windows7!  who says there arent lots of nice ppl in this world?

I agree with V... it looks a lot like Vista and if you were running a beast machine before, chances are you won't really notice much of a difference in how more "efficient" (concerning RAM, etc.) it runs.

On a lighter note, there are some cool new features, and Aero is slightly improved. Also, with WB 7, you can go above and beyond Aero entirely!

Windows 7 isn't Vista with a new name.

It's a variation of Vista that WORKS....

So Win 7 looks like Vista, not for long once I apply WindowBlinds to it. 

Indeed Jafo, but it's more than a variation of Vista IMO. Having zero issues on my work PC.

At home I've been having this issue. Explorer.exe stops responding and gives me the option to restart it. It never hoses my programs though even if they are running and this happens. I've searched high and low for the answer but to no avail so far.

7 is going to kill XP faster than a speeding bullet.

My experience with Vista [beta] was pretty final and disasterous....didn't recognise the modem...so no connection to be able to do anything like.....solve the connection....\

The same beta stage of Win 7 and it was finding drivers for me for anything/everything....didn't have to move a muscle.

6 installs of Win 7 later [all sorts of varieties/vers] and still no 'real' issues...

yeah.. hmm.. I'm gonna have to go ahead and sort of.. disagree with you there.. yeaaahh

Sounds like its killing your 7 experience faster than a speeding bullet
