Video Previews, Let's have some more!
Good idea or waste of time????

I was going to bring this up a while ago, but, I blew off doing it for one reason or another. However since I saw the DX Theme Pod Concept by ped I've decided to ask......
Recently I took My first few baby steps into DX with a few widgets, they don't do much, I just wanted to add a little animation to some RightClicks. I really wanted People to see how they looked, and for Me the stationary preview didn't do it. I heard Zubaz mention Jing for making video previews and I knew that was the way to go.
So, I was wondering............
Are there only video previews for Dreams because nobody thought of it until animated wallpapers were developed?
If not now, would it be possible to have video previews for other types of skins on the new site? or would it use too much space and not be worth the cost?
There are all kinds of skins that have some really cool animations, I think it would be a nice option to have, what do You think?????

I'm glad You like the idea, If people do learn how to make them, as far as the compression, format etc.... that would have to be according to whatever was specified by the site. as far as all the fancy stuff You're talking about, I wasn't even thinking of anything that elaborate, but for a tutorial that would be really cool, and if You ever get to do something like that I would love to see it.

Ive watched many a tutorial, some of the better ones include voice.. a highlight on screen as something is clicked.. text popups for keyboard shortcuts, screen zooming etc. I think I would enjoy making some if I ould figure it out, I have Camtasia, guess I just need to brush up on it unless someone can recommend something better \ easier.

I've used Camtasia and my results are always jerky and slow. Almost as bad as a skype webcam...lol!!

Jing is supposed to be better, dunno. I would like to say this much to the dream makers out there. I am 60% more likely to download a dream that has a video preview, rather than a screenshot. I know a few others that feel the same way. Good post, Fred!!

john ... use Pinnacle or Ulead video studio ..... oops, its now corel video studio, easy to make video previews .... otherwise after effects is ready to eat your brain ....

I agree Jim, and there are so many other things that could take advantage of the video preview, a WB that has a really cool start menu animation, DX themes like Pressurized 
, Xions like Plastic Fantastic and Krome by Messiah1, and the list goes on......

Its a great idea as long as folks learn how to make them, make sure they are compressed correctly, correct format etc.. heck the reason I havent done some tutorial vids is i cant seem to find the time to correctly learn how to do efficient screencaptures with zooming, text-overs , mouseovers etc.
In fact if anyone has any good links for tuts for making tutorial screenvids, please post em.
