Mr. Bald Eagle, I Will Find You

One of the nice things where I live is there is quite a bit of open space, and while I’m out biking around the neighborhood it’s common to see wildlife such as alligators, birds, etc. One in particular has been eluding me. There is a big tree which has been left standing and a couple of bald eagles will often sit there looking for food or just relaxing.
I have made several attempts to capture them with my camera, but each time they fly away for one reason or another. This past weekend I took my bike over to attempt another shot. As my daughter was setting up the tripod I was able to fire off one shot, and then once again, it took off.
I will get my pics, one of these days.

wow nice pic ID , i am sure you will get that pic you have been after, it reminds me of a saying that my mum use to say, patience is a virtue process if you can, always found in a woman but never in a man

Look what I used to have as a pet for about 5 months. I was working on a house, and there was a nest of sparrow hawks (kestrel). They all flew away, except for one that couldn't. I kept it until fall. It was friendly, and used to fly over and sleep on my chest just under my shoulder. (Birds seem to like it there).

Thank goodness Benjamin Franklin didn't get his way and the US ending up with the Wild Turkey as the national bird.
Hard to imagine ID running thru the swamp chasing one with his camera. He'd be gator bait for sure.

willistuder, Kestrels are beautiful little hawks, as your photos show, also very fast!! Last winter we had one swoop through our *bird feeding* area, just looking for an easy meal!!! Curious as to what became of the one you had...

We have a Bald Eagle that flies around our house once in a while. Beautiful Creatures. At the Minnesota Zoo, they have one that has been their for many years. For one reason or another it can no longer fly. But even when it loses a single feather it has to be documented and turned over to an American Indian tribe here. Not sure which tribe though. Anyways, i found that very interesting.

I let him go. The first time he flew back in the house, the second time I got him to fly away. That was a long time ago, but I still miss him. They are the most colourful hawks, and the photos don't do justice.

Nice ID, i was totally into ornothology as a kid in the UK, spent many an hour, day, weekend trying to spot some elusive birds.
I was fortunate enough to have seen a couple of rare Scottish Ospreys once, of course, was always one on one.. no digicams back then, just me , a flask of hot tea and my trusty 8X50 binoculars.
