Who Else Is Pee'd Off With Bing

unsolicited intrusions

Monday, September 7, 2009 by starkers | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

As the title would suggest, I am pissed off with Bing... the MS/Yahoo search engine.  The reason: I click on *say* the WC link on my FF bookmarks toolbar and I get a Bing search page instead... I click on the devART link and I get a Bing search page... I click on the Majorgeeks bookmark and I get the Bing search page. It even comes up after clicking the back button and trying the link again... several times on occasion.

I have Yahoo set as my default search provider in Firefox, have done for years, but this has only been happening since the MS/Yahoo search merger... and bloody annoying, to say the least.  If I wanted Bing I'd click on a Bing link.

Anyone else experiencing this... clicking on a dedicated link but getting Bing instead?

Hmmm, it's looking more and more like I may be the victim of yet another conspiracy.

Obviously, the Bing people know that I'm anti-Google and want me to sample their product.  Yup, that's it, they want me try it out and preach the virtues of Bing, as opposed to Google search, to the World.

Well bad luck... severely pissing me off is not gonna garner my support.  Nope, being pissed AND broke ain't gonna be conducive to my co-operation...

... money's gonna have to change hands now.

Seriously, though, I can even be within a site... WC for example, click on an internal link to *say* a particular forum thread but get Bing instead of the desired page.

It mighn't be as bad as getting on a downtown bus and ending up in the boondocks... but it's still aggravating.

Hi Starkers. maybe its just for us people that never use other internet browswers other than Internet Explorer 6/7/8, what the heck does *say* mean in english?  Does this feature actually read out the clicked link through your speakers, or some other desired effect?  (of course, this would occur, before the setup of Bing search engine)

cheers

*say* is the shortened way of saying: "for example, a particular forum thread"

Does this feature actually read out the clicked link through your speakers,

Haven't noticed really... though I could swear that sometimes I can hear: " We hate Google too... we hate Google too!"

Guess that might be the subliminal sounds to make me switch over.

Sorry!  Didn't mean to make it as clear as mud.

The crux of the issue is that no matter which link/bookmark I click on using Firefox, Bing will rear its ugly mug when I neither want or summon it.

Better?

I think Bing should get a healthy dose of starkers killer starkerbarks. Then they, whoever they are...can 'BING' till their hearts content on the other side of reality.

Told yer there wos a conspiracy... Bing is trying to usurp Google... and is stealing karma points to purport popularity.

does it happens when you type in an address.

bing might be linked to your address bar.

Not that I've noticed... not that I type too many URL's.  Most addys I visit are bookmarked, or I copy/paste provided links.

And I thought this thread was about Bing Crosby.

Closer to Xmas it could have been... with White Christmas playing just about everywhere, I get POQ hearing it.

Me too. Must be an age thing

If it was an age + music thing... it'd be Medieval minstrels, wouldn't it.

Remind me to stay upwind when the Bing vs. barks war starts. The fallout won't be pretty.

I did a windows update the other day, and the next thing I know Bling (Bing) is on my top bar and in my search engine. I immediately sought ought the way to excorsize it. Go to manage addons (Vista) and delete it!! done no more conspiracy. It wouldn;t be so bad except that I wasn;t even asked if I wanted it on my system. It just appeared after a simple update!

Google isn't too bad as long as you avoid all the adds it puts in your face. I use it only for quick searches. Yahoo basically I use for my e-mails but this Bing thing......it seems as though MS is looking to emulate google.

countdown to Bing vs Bark.......................................................?

Have a look at your addons and plugins, see if any are bing or yahoo. Disable them one at a time to see if they are the problem.

Bichur might be right, it could another M$ program or even Yahoo messenger update.

I am using Bing for my home page and search at the moment.

I have IE8 and Firefox installed and do not have any problems with favorites.
