Jafo Embarks On A Road Trip

And only 36 years since the last one.....

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 by Jafo | Discussion: Community

Tomorrow morning [Friday, Aus time] I'm on a plane to the US and Canada.   All things going well [the US doesn't chuck me out for being unintelligible] I'll be visiting all the great guys and gals at Stardock HQ.

Yay for me.....  It's been a loooong time coming.  I've known these guys for about a decade so it'll be a 'buzz' to finally catch up with them in 'Real Life' [tm].

In all of my history with skinners/skinning I've only met 3 skinners before, all of whom were from Oz, like me.....so this will likely be sensory overload [or something]...

I have a beat-up old laptop that'll hopefully keep me in contact here on my travels....and if I get a chance on the road I'll try to post the odd pic or two, but I'll likely not be on quite as frequently/long as is usual.

If you've the inclination to PM or otherwise contact me re issues with Wincustomize and/or its inhabitants it may be a better bet for the next few weeks to badger Island Dog in lieu.....[he yearns for your contact]....

Hopefully I can get one or two group mug-shots at Stardock on the 16th to show you what an ugly - er - wonderful bunch of people they all are....

Take care of each other...I'll be busy taking photos....

Cheers,

Paul.

Not bad... 8000 miles in 21 minutes...

Has anyone noticed these buggers drive on the wrong side of the road?....

The problem with L.A. is that you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.

Here's some of my eating spots when you get hungry:

Aunt Kizzy's Back Porch (Louisiana style cooking, five star food)

523 Washington Blvd.  Marina Del Rey (301) 578-1005

Rajun Cajun (Cajun food so good, makes your toes wiggle)

422 Pier Ave. Hermosa Beach (310) 376-7878

Rosa's Mexican Restaurant (The Super Deluxe Burrito is the best in the city, my spot since 1975 and the recipe has never changed)

322 Pacific Coast Highway Redondo Beach (310) 374-9094

Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles (Try the "Scoe's Special" with my complements)

Five locations depending on where you're staying including the original in Hollywood on Sunset and Gower.

Enjoy Dude;

UPDATE:  You kinda picked a bad time to visit So. Cal with several counties going through extreme brush fires Jafo.  Watch out for heavy traffic due to evacuations and detours.

I'm 400 miles north and we're getting the smoke from down there.

They let Australians in?

I Know!  Like LA need more pollution!

It's cool.  We lock 'em all up at Sea World in San Diego where they're forced to hand out pamplets to their fellow tourists!

Oi, Paul.... I just thought of something....
If you get the time, after having tormented the SD crew, perhaps you could take slight detour and try out Spankys Grill in Knoxville.... It aint that far

I'm rather sure you'll find it interesting, mostly because one of our old skinning-friends is running that grill!!
I am more than sure that Chad Rumbut would be delighted getting a visitor from 'the other side of the world'.
For those not knowing... Chad Rumbut (Crumbut) was one of the best skinners when skinning were still in the cradle.

Btw, the grill looks like this:

I'm sure he'd be delighted if any skinner dropped in, for a pixel-chat.
Just say Snowman sent you

Wow...those are too expensive. You can buy them on the reservation for a tenth of those prices.

Kitty, not too many people wear buckskin these days.

Given how much time it takes to disembark, etc, you've pretty much landed before you took off... which just goes to show how backwards they really are.

Has anyone noticed these buggers drive on the wrong side of the road?....

And their water goes down the plughole the wrong way as well... meaning, it's a nice place to visit but yer wouldn't wanna live there. Oh yeah, if you get confused when the light won't go on, their light switches go the wrong way as well.  It's a bit like the Boston Tea party and putting z's where s's should be.... rebellious and part of the concerted effort to disassociate themselves from the British Empire.
