Never one to rest for very long, I've been playing around with a new design

It will be cool to see what (if anything) comes out of it ![]()

I say same matte/charcoal black with the symbols/icons (the lock, etc.) the dark green which goes to a light/toxic green on mouse-over...and maybe convex to mirror the top...and bottom, with the same lines?
Alternatively, on mouse-over goes to red...might look good?

That is a sound idea Doc. I think that would work very well.
2of3....perfect gradient now, and the additions work incredibly well with the look. I think you should stop there, and work on the buttons. I don't envy you one bit....I would be tearing out my hair by now.

The start panel lighting looks as if it's centre front, the green strips either side are now consistant with that, but the green highlight on the mouseover and logoff panel makes them look like a depression lit from above. Maybe a little change there?

I think they look more like they are self illuminating.Almost like a tab cutout with a light behind it.

Does this look better?

I moved the gradient angle 5 degrees to the left. This means of course that I have to mirror that for the left item image (which won't work on the xp version because xp doesn't allow for seperate images)
Also shown are possible logoff buttons. Left image, mouseover. Right, normal

Kinda reminds me of the old XBOX theme by The Skins Factory.

If you maintain this level of quality for the rest of the skin ,this will be a keeper for me.
I hope you manage to get a layer working for the center hilite of the taskbar so you dont have to stretch the texture.(and the text for activated and mouse hopefully will be greeeeeen!)(grey for the normal states is good)
haha, dont ya just love all of us telling you how your skin should look? ![]()

I promise to spend a lot of time in the planning/design fase rather than giving in to my impulse to whack it into a blind.
The tasbar will be done in layers. Texture tiled and gradient stretched. I have already tested this on the start panel and there is no noticeable bad streaching no matter how many items I add. ![]()
Make it so, Numba One ![]()
Actually, yes. I really appreciate the advice.

The new one (#35) is my favourite so far. I like the subtle green on the mouseover as well as the gradient stroke, maybe not quite as bright.
