CCleaner Version v2.22.968 gone crazy - HELP!

Wednesday, August 5, 2009 by PoSmedley | Discussion: Personal Computing

I'm having an issue with CCleaner. I have always used it and never had a single problem until now. When I run the Registry cleaner, it is showing damn near everything in the registry as a problem.

I unistalled and reinstalled a fresh copy.

I've run Spybot, Avast, and hijackthis to see if there was something else going on, but can find nothing. It still shows a crapload of registry problems. Soem of them look like important items I would not want to delete. It's NEVER shown this many items before. AT most, I see 5 or 10. Somtimes nothing.

Here is a screenshot. I drew the red arrow to emphasize that this is only a very small portion of what it wants me to 'fix'.

ANy one else have this problem or know what the cause may be?

Did you uninstall any programs other than CC?

No. I know what you're thinking. This isn't the usual 'list iof fixes' you might get when you uninstall a program. This is listing Photoshop files, winamp files, and other things. The list is HUGE. I can't emphasize that enough. It takes about 10 minutes for it to list everything.

Best advice I can give you is:

1. Uninstall CC, wait for a new patch and then install again. If it's still the same then...

2. Install other program

I have the same CC ver ...just ran it [win 7] and got 6 entries.

Uninstall...full system reboot [cold] ...redownload...reinstall and have another go.

You shouldn't be getting squillions.....worst on a 'bad day' might be a hundred or so...

standard

I'm getting 3,918 entries. I have installed CC on other folks PC's that were older and had run years and not gotten that many entries.

This on'es from FileHippo and in researching, I'm seeing what you stated more than just a few places. Don't understand it, though. I wouldn't think it would matter.

Uninstall...full system reboot [cold] ...redownload...reinstall and have another go.

I did and got the same thing again.

Well...

First thing is...DO NOT RUN the cleanup.

Second thing...

While you do the second thing....have a look on Google...

while I rarely use CCleaner, I've found it's sister program (Defraggler) quite useful!

I've never had a problem with either though...
