Updating

With Impulse

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 by ularu | Discussion: ObjectDock

Hi.

I am new here but have used Objectdock for a very long time.I decided to buy DesktopX and have Impulse installed.

As i was installing software today Impulse tells me there is an update for Objectdock, thats fine ,but it tells me that it needs to uninstall the current version of objectdock so that it can update. Now my question is,what will happen to my docks when this happens? will i loose all my icons or will they be saved somehow during the update,i want to update but i dont want to loose my current docks and icons.

Thanks

Dash

A basic uninstall should not modify your saved dock settings, but it's always a good idea to back them up.

To backup your ObjectDock settings:
-Right Click on the dock and choose 'Dock Settings...'
-Click on the 'Themes' Section on the left side.
-Click the 'Save Current Dock...' button at the bottom of the window
-Choose a name to save the settings under.

To Restore Dock settings:
-Right Click on the dock and choose 'Dock Settings...'
-Click on the 'Themes' Section on the left side.
-Click the 'Load Previous Dock...' button.
-Choose the name you gave the dock when you saved it.

Saved dock settings are stored here: (My)Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Backed Up Themes

There is an update for OD? That's new to me and nothing came up when I fired up Impulse!

I opened Impulse twice today and found no update. Last update was for WB7. Thanks for the info, Dash.

Well, the last stable update for OD came out over 2 years ago. It's called 1.9. There hasn't been a non alpha/beta update since.

Interesting, for you it says latest update was in December last year. However, in my Impulse the last update was in October last year. Does the update date reflect when you've applied the update or when it was released. Should be the latter, but it looks like it's the former.

The date in Impulse is based around when we put that version on Impulse. There were some issues with prior builds and they were pulled.

But if the build name is the same then so should be the date in Impulse, no?
