Walter died last night..........just before the Apollo anniversary.......
He was a part of American life for over 20 years. When I think of the major events I lived through, I always hear his voice.

He was good. The current crop of so-called news reporters could learn a lot from him. Honesty has left the newsroom.

I agree with Hankers, back then the stories were checked to make sure they were true and the news was unbiasly reported. He was the best. The news mans news man.

RIP Walter and your fellow departed professional honest reporters.
Todays reporters think they know everything about everything and how the general population are thinking - I get sick at how often they re-ask a question when a witness or expert analyst does not give the answer that they, the reporter, thought that it should be.
If only the networks hired reporters on the basis of unbiassed intelligence and politeness instead of good looks surrounding a vacuous cranial cavity.

I'd say objectivity...and that's because like my dad (who was the Night City Editor of The New York World Telegram & Sun), he came up in print, was a real reporter...and eschewed much of the 24 hr. BS that passes for news today.

Also absolutely correct. He was the Newsman's Newsman. He and Edward R. Morrow were the epitome of the craft. They also trained and built newsmen under them.
And that's the way it was.
RIP Uncle Walter. You were a truly class act.
