Helping WC Community Members

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Over the last couple of weeks we have had some negative drama on WinCustomize.  The weather widget alone has caused a ton of frustration alone, so I wanted to do something to bring some positive vibes to WC, and to show that we are a community.

Since the economy is in a bad situation, I know we have many members on WC who have been hit with very hard times.  Trying to help someone who has lost a job for instance can be difficult, but I do know things like hobbies and friends can make a difference in attitude, which is a big step in moving again in the right direction.

I wanted to put an offer out there for people that might want to help other members with a WC subscription or even software gifts.  There are people here who would like to contribute to the community, and we would like to give a helping hand in getting them started if they can’t do it on their own.

I’m going to start the ball rolling by offering 2 WinCustomize subscriptions for two people who are not current subscribers.  Just tell us in 50 words or less why you would like to have a WC subscription, and what the community means to you.  You need not give any personal details about your situation if you wish, I would just like to hear how skinning and the community might help you in general.

If there are any other community members that would like to help, I would recommend gifting applications to someone which is easily done in Impulse.  Perhaps an upcoming skinner that needs a full version of WindowBlinds for instance, instead of relying on the trial or friends to test, for instance.  If you would like to do that, you can PM me with details.

The moderators have recieved a number of gifts from the community to be dispersed in a more private manner.

Thanks to all of you that make this site something special.

Sorry for the delay once again, more internet troubles.

We have given away two WinCustomize subscriptions to two WC community members in this thread who needed a subscription and have been active and helpful in the community.

I'm catching up from the last couple of days, and I will move on to people who have PM'd me about contributions.  We have received some great support, and I thank you very much for that.

If you have a specific person you would like to help, or have helped, just let me know so I can put them on my list so nobody repeats anything.  Unfortunately, a WC sub can't be gifted as a application purchase can, so we will just have to manually trasfer a new purchase.

Please take my two unnecessary subscriptions (until 2011 and until 2012). I'm even not sure that I'll be here so long. So these both subscriptions may disappear without any benefit for somebody...

Does this mean my extra subs can't be transferred?

No, existing subs that were purchased for yourself can't be transferred.  If you want to gift a new sub then we will manually transfer it over, and I'm asking the devs if we can add gifting to a WC sub purchase in the future to make it easier.

Bummer...I have extra subs, but as the economy suffers, so does my personal economy. I'm afraid I can't give right now if I can't give a sub I already have.

That said, I would like to nominate Remo  http://remo.wincustomize.com/  for a ODNT sub if anyone can because he is a good skinner who has had bad times befall him. I think he is an upcoming star and would be a great asset to the community, if he had the means. A WC sub would help, if not the other. Please help him.  Thanks.

It appears I was wrong, you can gift a subscription through the WC store to another member.  This will make it much easier now.

If I understand correctly, you can't transfer a WC sub that was bought for myself. Can you transfer an ODNT sub that was bought for myself?
