Hmmmmmm , odd then, because when I recolour the preview reflects the changes I've made just fine, but when I apply the icons nothing changes.

having problem with beta ver. 4.98[b].028. Updated to this version when released and lost icons in object dock plus ver. 190 Plus Build 535u when using flyout menus. Not all icons are lost. system icons are fine, just program icons are generic(blank).

please advise

I know that's an old post but now that I've upgraded to Windows 7 I'm getting a similar issue for the Live Folder(Data) folders in almost every package where it puts the assigned icon but then also puts the Live Folder (Front) in front of it.

Yeah, I upgraded to Win 7 x64 and I'm still missing previews with some IP sets, as in Vista x64... latest IP edition.

the problem only occured when update to this version of icon packager, strangely enough, when I install the first beta, it was numbered ver. 5.01 and worked great. for some reason, impulse said 4.98 was an update and then everything turned bad. and I am using W7 ulitimate 64. as far as live folders are concerned, it the icon set does not include them, you have to specify which ones to use.

The problem actually seems to be related to finding the programs folder and the icons within. I have photoshop 64 bit and it will not work with flyout menus on object dock, i have to place the shortcut on the dock itself. the icon thing seems to be the same. Iconpackager is not looking for the icon in the "Program Files (x86)" folder it seems to be looking for the program icons in "Program Files" where most programs are not located unless you are running a 32 bit system.  Just like object dock prefixes all flyout shortcuts with "Program Files (x86)", Iconpackager seems to be looking in the wrong place. A registry addition my be necessary to fix.

Solution is to remove registry key "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\iconhandler"

I don’t know why this key is created when you install IconPackager, the program does not handle .exe files. The only reason to have this entry is when a .exe does not have an icon associated in the .exe, creating a generic .exe icon. But it changes the default icon that other programs read, such as Object Dock. Removing this entry reverts the registry to a default of "%1" which is the icon that is normally associated with any program that is installed. A generic .exe icon is not really needed.

All system tray icons also revered to the defaults (no generic blank icons).

As a side note, you can revert any extension association this way, to find the file association, go to registry "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES\ROOT" find the extension you want to revert and go to the registry entry named under default to change the icon handler. Not all extensions have icon handlers or defaults. if no default entry is present, you can make the extension associate with any icon you wish by creating the sub key "DefaultIcon" and a "(Default)" string value pointing to whatever icon you wish. You can use relative or full paths in string.

This may be resolved also, by changing the "DropHandler" key entry for exefile associations. For this extension, it would make more sense to add the IconPackager entry into the "DropHandler" Key. (info for the programmers)

Each time I restart my computer (W7 32bits), the recycle bin icon reset to the default one and I must re-apply icon package to gets it skinned again

I have a hard drive icon corrupted since the installation of the version 5 and some skins.

In list with my other drives

Don't kow how to fix it. I tried restore windows default icons but didn't work. Any ideas please?

Open IP and apply the default Windows icons, then go to Settings in IP.

At the bottom you will see Rebuild Icon Cache, Repair Shell Icons, and Repair Icon Images. Try all of those.

Will that correct the issue with the live folders? I can only get them to change if I change the size of the icons. As of right now none of my live folders are skinned.

I get that as well, Uvah.  I sometimes have to switch sizes back and forth to get all the large ones to display properly. Some packages just won't show all large icons, even if that size is included and/or give a mix of skinned and unskinned...yuck!  I've no idea why, hopefully it will get addressed someday.

I assume you are using an IP with included live folders, or have assigned some to be used in IP config.

Set icons to Windows default > uninstall IP > use fix suggested in item #2 HERE > if all goes well, then reinstall IP

Helpdesk used to have a file called IPfix or something similar that would take care of this problem but my link turns up a 404 now.

Since it has been 2 1/2 years since this thread was started, it sure would be nice to have Live Folders on the desktop display properly on Win 7 64 bit. I constantly have to rebuild and they keep reverting to Windows default or a mixture of skinned and non skinned. It does look like crap!
