K r o m e - WIP

cos you can never do too much marketing :P

Friday, June 5, 2009 by vStyler | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

er months of buggering around in C4D I think I might just be ready to try pull off a true Chrome windowblind.. You know. not just metallic looking gradients and highlights, but real, rendered, reflective materials and about as far away from Vista as I can possibly imagine going, at least regarding material composition.

Finished.

V, can't pick a wall?  lol  Every screeny you've done has a different wall, just shows the versatility of KROME!!   BTW, please send permission.

Your skins are built solid for Vista so to make them WIn 7 worthy all you need to do is..

1. Make the start button maximum 50 pixels wide.

2. Make the Vista logoff buttons no larger than 53 pixels wide or it will get cut off. Only 1 button is used instead of 2 so it needs the shutdown glyph/ text.

3. The taskbar buttons would need to have the part where the icon goes in your design removed.

** might require making the logoff arrow as a glyph but that depends on the design. If done the usual way like in Vista it should be OK.

Everything else will work fine as not much changes from Vista to Win 7.

he's a hyperactive wall changer when making blinds....every screenie will be different throughout the day....especially when initially selecting colours....up to 200 times a day...to make sure the shadings blend the best with the widest range of walls......yeah...nuts..

Decided to change the tooltip to use a graphic provided by Messiah1 from his docks. That's it, near the cursor.

I plan at some point to install a seperate HD to install 7 on, I've heard nothing but nightmares trying to partion XP, Vista and 7 and I just can't see myself making adjustments to an OS I don't have yet and can't test any changes I make. When I have Wb7 and Win 7 I'll do updates... Im sure some things will change by then to where even If i made a 7 version now it will need updated again.

Looks good Jim , you have permission to release when I release the WB... leave a link to it plz.

Dual booting Vista and 7 is a piece of cake, John. Dunno about XP.

And there in lays the problem ... no WAY I'm getting rid of XP, more people on it than Vista and 7 combined.

I kinda miss XP, but I am getting used to Vista. Won't go to 7 for a while, I guess. Letting go of XP was rough...lol. I guess you need it, skinning for 3 OS's must be tough. Good thing DX works on all 3 the same.

I suppose making a blind for 7, without actually having 7, would be a bitch, but if you do, I'll test for you.

I speak from experience about tripple booting with XP, Vista and Win7.  Don't try it.  It knocked out XP until I removed the partition that had Win7 on it.  Then all was good.  I put Win7 on a different drive and just swap em out when I want to use it.  Bit of a hassle but not too bad.

Back on topic: Everything looks great so far.  Jim's DX theme is looking sweet.  Docks are about done and then I just need to work up a screeny.  Great work John and the others involved.  Another winner in my book.
