Should I defragment my Backup files ?

Hi friends
I need some help.
Should I defragment my computer's Backup files?
I have Smart Defrag for defragmenting my computer's hard disk. 
Whenever I use windows defragmenter to analyze my backup partition(FAT32 as my backup program is not compatible with NTFS), even after defragmentation with either smart defrag or windows defragmenter, it always says "You should defragment this volume" 
On my backup partition I have four backup files 2GB each. Should I try to defragment this volume? In Smart defrag, there is an option to skip files larger than 1GB in size . Should I check this so that my backup files are not disturbed?

I think first off you should change that backup partition to NTFS... it is more efficient and has greater compatabilty with the more recent apps. Then you could try switching to Cobian Backup, which is a freeware utility that has several compression options and can be scheduled to backup only new or changed files. I had a similar situation a while back and this resolved it for me.... let's just say that some of the more modern apps weren't too fond of FAT32
Once you have done this you should have no compatability issues or with Smart Defrag stating that you still need to defragment the volume.
