Here's a question I don't think I've seen ask or answered.  If you download the RC are you getting the upgrade for free or will you have to get a retail copy when it's released and load it?

No. I see no point in installing an OS that will "expire" since I won't have the money to purchase it when released and am perfectly happy with the OS I am using now. Also,I paid for ODNT Ultimate and wish to continue using and enjoying it. All of it.

The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

I didn't click the link because I'm not going to download the RC.  Oh well, that's something I won't have to put up with.

Well to be fair, this is not the retail release.  Otherwise they would be giving away a free copy of their OS.

I'm not downloading the RC but wouldn't that be a nice way to repay folks that were beta testing your piece of software?  I'm just saying what a nice jesture that would be, consumer good will and all.

Of course the same question that comes up everytime a new version of an OS comes out is 'What's wrong with the one I'm using?'  Sorry.  Ooops I was going to delete that but hit the post button.

Hmmm, nearly a 1 year fully functional trial. Not a bad deal at all!

I've downloaded both the x86 and x64 flavors and installed it on a domain pc (laptop). Unfortunately, neither Anti-Virus solution we use is compatible with it. (symantec endpoint 11 or Trend Micro Office Scan).

An alternative AV solution on this network is not an option at all. I don't see the AV Vendors breaking their backs to be compliant on a RC OS either.

Let's just hope it doesn't suffer the same vendor induced problems that Vista had.

This version of the beta is not restricted to a certain number of users.  Anyone that wants to can get it.  That would mean anyone could dl the RC, MS would give them a free copy and not get any money for the software.  Makes no sense.

It's already a nice jesture that they are allowing people to use the OS for AN ENTIRE YEAR.

Nobody seems to think that way about Stardock products?

I'm not a MS fanboy or anything like that. I'm just curious as to why people are so quick to judge them when other software companies don't give away their full RTM versions to everyone that beta tested their RCs.

No I will never download it. Not only this but also any release copy unless offered a discount in final retail version.

Resons: I don't like installing and uninstalling OS. I won't get any softwares or games for it now. It will not give me any nice experience.

Yes,it may be great for a lot of XP hold-outs ( the target group for Win7,imo)or those planning on buying a new computer in the near future. However,I dont fit into either of those categories. I have Vista,like it and will keep it until some point far off in the future when I go 64bit with a new rig.Then I will have to decide on staying with Vista or switching to whatever OS is "latest and greatest" By then it could be Windows 9 or 10.

Agreed.  If you like what you've got, then that's fine.  I'm dual booting XP and Vista.  I happen to have an extra hard drive sitting around for my laptop that I'm going to install Win7 on and play around with...mostly because I can.  When it comes out retail, then I'll decide if I want to deep six Vista, which I probably will.  But until then, I'm going to play with the free version while I can.
