Winamp goes into the sunset
The program that essentially invented skinning fades away..

Betanews.com is reporting that AOL is closing shop on Nullsoft. Winamp will
continue to exist and be supported but it appears it may no longer be actively
developed.

I geel the same Scarebear. I have it installed, but don't use it. However, this just seems like then end of an era.

I use Winamp. I use versions 2.81, 2.91, 3, and 5.05.
The things that first attracted me to Winamp were:
It loaded quick and used a small amount of memory resources.
I like 5.05 because of the cool skins people made for it.
I always used 2.91 the most and continue to, that version was the best for my needs.
I think they should continue to develop Winamp.
My advice would be to go with low memory usage, and make it easier to make skins for Winamp, I think this could bring new beginners into skinning.
Winamp was the first app I learned to skin, Winamp is responsible for introducing me to the world of skinning.
I would be sad to see Winamp no-longer developed.

I won't be shedding any tears over Winamp's demise, I haven't used it in years.
End of an era? I've heard the same talk when Kjofol faded into oblivion. I bet these days hardly anyone remembers that it ever existed.

~ WinAmp has always been, and will always be, my audio player of choice. With v5.05 all my needs and wants from an audio player are met. In my eyes, no other player comes close.
~ I will sadly miss the continued development of it. AOL has no chance of improving upon it like Frankel and his team could've. It is truly a sad day for me. (

Great, add another notch to AOL's kills list.
It's like whatever they touch turns to rubbish.
WinAMP has also always been my player of choice for at least, the last 5 years. It has been one of the fore-runners of skinning and modification for functional software, giving users the ability to create custom skins for the player, and it had a great and varied community base.
I'll be a sad little puppy if they go ahead and can the whole thing and it would be a very big mistake on AOL's part.
Here's hoping the corporate boneheads at AOL reconsider.
