Purchasing a laptop on friday, which brand should i buy

I am purchasing a laptop on friday, never owned one, i have always built my own desktops as recent as last december, anyways, which brand is the best/reliability/customer service etc, Sony,Asus,HP, or Toshiba, those are my 4 choices,

For what it's worth, I like Dell simply because you can go to their website and get a "made to order" machine. You can do this with a Mac too, but they're too pricey for me. Price is the only real reason I won't be buying a Mac anytime soon.
Dell's are a bit pricey, too, but because you can pick and choose the hardware/software included, you tend not to get all the "out-of-the-box" pre-installed crap...if you ask for it to not be included, that is!
But I definitely understand budget constraints, so get the best bang for your buck! As someone stated above, if you can't find a good one at the store, check Newegg.

Azus are nice but spendy. Toshiba, dell and acer are ok. I would try to find one within your price range that has the Best hardware. For gaming I would try for at the minimum, a 2.0+ ghz Duo core2, tho preferably a Quad or extreme, or comperable AMD chip, 4 gig DDR2 or DDR3, Sata Hdd. Preferably with an ATi or Nividia Mobile graphics chipset. Dont go with Intel or other obscure graphics processors.

I have a sony VAIO AR... 17"Wide Screen with " 2 Gig of ram, 200Gig HDD, Nvida video card with 800Megabites of ram...
And this thing is faster than alot of desktops..... and i have had no prob's at all...
Drivers can sometimes be hard to find... 
Came it at about $2,000 but worth every penny.........
So i would go with sony or Dell.....

Personally, I would go with HP. I have one with 17" Wide Screen, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Nvidia GeForce 8600, 2.5 Ghz dual core Intel processor.
It works great. I can play just about any game I want, with most of the settings on highest. It would have cost about $2000, but I found a $500 off coupon online, so it ended up about $1500.
I also like HP because you can build your computer on their website, like you can with Dell and Apple.

Spending drives me crazy, i just plugged the new BamBoo tablet (Including PhotoShop Elements 6 & Corel Painter 4, mind you) and, man i'm in a Paradise of creative control from here on end.
Portable or not.

Thanks everyone, I have looked at the Dells, i am such a dope, i didnt know Micro Center carried Dells, oh well,but i appreciate the info you all have given, its good to ask first, especially which ones to stay away from, my last name is murphy so the "Law" applies to me here LOL, there is no question this is the best forums for any type of opinion or advice, i have asked it before, and gotten excellent advice, once again thanx guys and gals,
