New Star Trek Theme............

Sunday, March 15, 2009 by Leo the Lion | Discussion: OS Customization

Saw this on TSF today...........For all you Trekkies out there..........Don't turn this into a Hyperdesk 'bashing' thread, please. We went through that little immature debacle a few months ago. Just admire the creativity and even if you don't use Hyperdesk just admire the art work, cool icons and there's a free media player remote too.

So much for the non-bashing. This is why you'll never see a Windowblinds skin out of us ever again. Thanks Leo for the original post, that was very cool. I'm glad you appreciate it.

So who's bashing it? All I see are people stating their preference for WindowBlinds.

That and mentioning a few obvious differences between the two skinning apps.

I don't really see any bashing going on here.  People are voicing their opinion about .msstyles and WindowBlinds, and they aren't knocking the designs.  It's the internet, criticisms are abound.

Yeah, It's a regular love fest. Love the "it's junk" comment. Whatever. Same old story here. Just validates my point why I'll never bring our themes to Windowblinds. Why would we... "FTL" right?

About bringing the "bells and whistles"... even if we did work out some deal with Stardock to port our themes over to this format (which I'm almost fairly certain won't happen after my last call with Phil Madis) there wouldn't be much change to the themes. I don't want a rocket shift blasting up my start menu. that would get so annoying to me after the 2nd or 3rd time. I do not want animations on my windows theme. I work on my computer all day and night. The animations in my opinion are better served on media widgets and non-productive theme elements so they aren't a distraction. Don't get me wrong i love a good animation obviously but not on the actual theme.

Another reason besides all the haters here, we have no windowblinds distribution network, Where the hell would i sell them? I can't even comment using my real account?

And for the record... my real account was supposed to be unbanned. It's bit annoying having a member # of over 3,000,000 when my real ID # is like 4500. Considering I've been part of the skinning community 10 years now...

Really Jeff....who's bashing? I think there has been some comments made on how things could be improved. For the most part I think the comments have been pretty positive. Your icons are some of the best I've ever seen. It's just that the skin itself doesn't seem to fit the icon quality...not that it's bad/horrible or anything like that...just not the same quality...almost like one person did the icons and another did the skin.

I'd say the same thing about any WindowBlind.

No bashing going on at all, People are stating their opinions which is their right, You need to grow a thicker skin Jeff and get used to the fact that people are always going to compare hyperdesk and windowblinds. Even though they both use different skinning engines. And anyway you don't seem to have any problems with people "bashing" windowblinds at deviantart.

You have a link to deviantART where someone is bashing WB on our stuff? I've mentioned many times to people that while i appreciate their support these are 2 different animals. So put up...

My skin is still thin from the other threads about us. As a matter of fact the author of this one has to mention no bashing. How do you explain that. Go drink some more koolaid.

And he can do it at DA!

I don't know what the shark clock joke is all about and i really don't care. Say what you want, but dA is a hell of a lot friendlier than here for us. I've been around for 10 years and i'll be around a lot longer than most of you will be. So have your fun

And say what you want, but I get paid really well for what I love to do. This is more than just a passion for me, it's my career. And even after 10 years i still love what i do. I work for myself at home where i can see my 8 month old daughter whenever i want.

I'm not going to bash Hyperdesk because I don't have any experience with it.  It doesn't seem like something one could compare with Windowblinds, but more like something to compare to MyColors.  From their website, I only see about a half dozen themes, all of them fairly masculine.

As for the Star Trek theme...it just seems to be Windows 7 with a few embellishments.  I'm not a fan of that flat taskbar (in one of my other posts, I referred to the Windows 7 taskbar as "a piece of Scotch tape at the bottom of my monitor" -- in the case of Star Trek theme, and the Subspace Vista theme, it's a piece of black electrical tape).  It's just not my cup of tea.  I'm sure it's a fantastic theme, if you like that sort of thing.

I, too, use my computer all day long, (working 10 hours a day), and I think animated start menus are a fantastic bit of glitz in my otherwise mundane work day.  With the use of Object Dock, I don't use the start menu that much anyway, since the bulk of my most-used programs are just one mouse click away, as opposed to two mouse clicks, and since I get paid on production, the less mouse clicks I use, the more money I make, (a good deal of what I use to be productive is hotkeyed, too, since I'm not making any money when my hands leave the keyboard).

So, there's my worthless 2-cents on the topic.  Obviously, I'm a Stardock junkie, and Windowblinds is my drug-of-choice.  Why buy crack, when I can have all the pure, high-grade cocaine I want, and can produce myself with Windowblinds?

....that comment about the shark clocks....I'm going to be chuckling about that all day!

Ma'am, I have a federal warrant for your arrest for the manufacture of cocaine.. please put your hands on the wall.

...and...ahem... I'll go ahead and confiscate what you have here ..

As for the theme, Its a good looking theme, I wish everyone could just see art in a more general way instead of picking at little things.

I'm no trekky but I can appreciate the hard work involved.

LOL.  Always with the puns.

You can have my SKS6 when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.  By the way, since I'm being arrested, is the food any good in jail?

...but I can appreciate the hard work involved.

As I have become painfully aware lately, hard work is not necessarily the equivalent of good work.  Now, I'm not saying the skinners at Hyperdesk are bad skinners.  Their skills are far superior to mine, and the functionality and appearance of their skins are outstanding.  I just prefer the versatility of Windowblinds.  Windowblinds is much more malleable...in fact, Hyperdesk is NOT malleable, to my knowledge, it can't be altered and manipulated so as to customize it even more than the professional artist did when he created the skin in the first place.

Let's say (the economy being what it is), I have $20 discretionary spending after all my bills have been paid.  I can buy one hyperdesk theme, and that's all I'll have, or I can buy Windowblinds, and have the Stardock skins that come with Windowblinds, and access to the themes in the WinCustomize gallery.  Windowblinds is a better value.  It's more interactive.  It  just does more stuff.

V- The graphics on the web are stunning. No question. Hard work...I believe you. But people I respect told me that the themes are much less impressive than the web graphics. That's all I said, and that certainly isn't bashing anything.
