Stardock is excited to announce the release of BootSkin 1.02.  BootSkin is an application that allows users to change and create custom boot screens for Windows Vista.  Unlike Windows XP boot screens, Vista boot screens are high-resolution and high-color to give you a much higher quality image.

BootSkin is now available as a free stand-alone download, which will allow users to change their boot screen to one of many available for download on WinCustomize.com .  BootSkin Vista, which is a component of Object Desktop, will allow you to apply and create boot skins for Windows Vista.

The BootSkin 1.02 update includes:

  • Improved upload form
  • Indicate applied skin
  • New Bootskins included
  • Improved upload status bar

BootSkin Vista is a part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements, and can be downloaded via Impulse.  BootSkin can also be downloaded through Impulse, or from www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/ .

I notice that after closing it,the preview reverts back to the default bootskin. It won't keep the applied skin in the preview.Other than that it works great.

Downloaded the long awaited Vista Bootskin app. When I try to change the skin to e.g Space or Winter, it informs me new skin applied ok. But on restart the default Microsoft skin is replaced with the hidden (Aurora) skin. Any ideas anybody.

I have the same issue Zubaz with this release as well as a problem since it was initially released where I cannot create my own skin, it just times out. Apparantly I am the only one in the world this happens to so I seem to have been ignored, I have to make a new reply everyweek just to get a seemingly scripted response about need screenshots or cannot reproduce and it has not been reported by anyone else

That is very odd.  I'd suggest disabling any security you have whiloe attempting a creation.  Blocking either the upload or download may cause your issue.

Also, if you have a current ticket open, please PM me with it.

I uninstalled the BootSkin app, restarted then checked my Regional settings. Found that Language selected for non-Unicode under the Administrative tab was English Ireland. Changed this to English United States as advised and restarted. Downloaded the Bootskin app and now it works ok. Tried various skins and all being set ok - no more Microsoft Aurora screen. Many thanks Zubaz for pointing me in the right direction.

Downloaded the "Free" version, downloaded several screens from the gallery. Installed said "Free" version, which in turn installed, WITHOUT ASKING, that Impulse crap. After installation, de-installed Impulse first, then started BootSkin, and found NO way to add and use any of the screens I had downloaded. So, tried to de-install BootSkin, but nooooooooo, "Impulse required to uninstall". So re-installed BootSkin including Impulse, uninstalled BootSkin, and then uninstalled Impulse. You'd think that was the end of it, BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Upon rebooting, my bootscreen is now an ugly green Aurora thing, I tried to change it back to what it was before, when I used a program, THAT WORKED, to change my bootscreen, (said program is called TuneUp Utilities for anyone that wants a program that actually works). But whatever the installation of BootSkin with the Impulse crap did to my system, I can no longer change my bootscreen to anything else other than the default Microsoft one. Thanks for ruining my bootscreen changing capability Stardock...! I just KNEW Impulse was nothing but trouble. LOVE the way the Forum keeps the formatting when a post is written..... ...........NOT!
