Copper Carbon Fibre WB
Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Xiandi | Discussion: Sneak Previews
Just getting started..
I know the texture is not perfect. I'm working on that. It's the XP start panel on my vista machine.
Thanks PDJ for allowing me to do this! I really like the way the DX looks, hopefully I can do it justice.

Looking really great Xiandi, I think you are right on. Can't wait to see this finished, I'm thinking a Theme Manager Suite is in the very near future.

Thanks go to you, Cyndie! I am honored that you want to do it. I hear that making a blind is no picnic. I can't or I would have. Thanx for doing it! I must say, you are coming along faster that I expected!

I know you probably dont want to hear this but having bad tile points in the pattern will probably frustrate some folks, perhaps you can fade it at one or both ends so that the pattern is smooth at all sizes.
Another option is to make the start menu inner panels... rectangular, in which case it will allow you to tile it correctly..
and yet another option is to ignore my preaching completely.
Lookin good so far Xi

Going square is not an option. I want to keep it looking as close to the DX theme as possible. I'll play with the images and margins a bit more, maybe I can get it to a point where the stretchy bits a well hidden or something. If not, I'll try the fading idea..it sounds like it has potential to work out well.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Looking good Xiandi I had a tough time with the pattern too while doing the RC....... ended up going rectangular like V is suggesting.

I don't like square corners, but I will be ok with whatever Xiandi decides. I have no experience at WB's, so I can't really advise. But I'm lovin it!

This don't mean I don't like the RC skin, BK. I love it! Thanx for doing it!

No prob Jim, I know You like it, I wish I could have left the corners the way they were, too bad RC doesn't have a multi-layer background so that I could have tiled and stretched.

I know a little about this stuff, seeing as how I'm in the middle of building my own (different) carbon fibre WB.
You would do well to study skins like Dragon. Dragon has an intricate pattern that tiles very well. It was an invaluable help to me in getting things to appear correctly.
Either way, you are going to end up with a bad tile point somewhere. Hopefully, you can carefully chose where that somewhere is!
Looking good so far...
