Sri Lankan Cricketers Attacked By Extremists
Tuesday, March 3, 2009 by superman | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
This is a black day in the history of cricket.
Masked gunmen attacked the bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Six cricketers, including Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, and his deputy Kumar Sangakkara, received minor injuries. The attack also left six security men and two civilians dead.
Samaraweera and Paravitarana were most seriously injured, Now they are alright.
The good news is that every cricketer is fine but several policemen and civillians had to sacrifice their lives.
What does this incident shows? Why they kill innocent people?

This doesn't surprise me at all, The only real surprise is that it hasn't happened before. Pakistan and india should be boycotted by every sporting team worldwide until they get their acts together. But of course they wont because the almighty dollar is of more value than human life.

When ideology becomes more important than humanity, the result is fanaticism and other "-isms".
I feel only sorrow and regret for such acts. They deny the humanity of the victims, intended and unintended.
The mentality of "I can win." lies behind it all, and is a sad testament to the area that produced "The Mahatma".

The Aussies pulled out of Pakistan....unfortunately the Sri Lankans did not.
I wouldn't be surprised if the world's second-most avid cricketing country is barred from International Cricket.
I remember when South Africa blotted its copy book and was kicked out....of Cricket as well as F1 [to name two].
Times change...things get better....but it may be a while for Pakistan.

The Mahatma incarnated in India not in pak.
Only sporting boycott is not a solution. Even if you abandon all relations with a certain part of world, it won't help the cause.
What needed is a serious approach by the developed countries of the world to first abolish the terrorists and then educate the younger generation of those areas.
1.US gives billions of $$ to pak, but did it ever inquire where all this $$ is going.
2.There are many terror-supporters in other countries too who donate the terrorists thousands of $$ and support them.
3.If a particular part of world is abandoned. This is what they are looking for. They want their land where they can run their camps. We simply can't let them be stronger.
................You might feel India a bit of unsafe but its only a bit........
1.Indian govt, army and every national force is united and one day we will root out every intruders. India is a relatively young country to be honest but we have enough will to overcome it.
2.The reason why India gets attacked is because it shares a large boundary with pak. They come from there.
You can't discriminate just seeing them once they entered and people are not so aware of environments. Means they lack a suspicious eye to catch them.
We got cheated by pak while trying to bring peace in South East Asia.
3.Its not India who has nurtured them, Musharraf himself says he has gathered them from all over the world.
4.India has kept world warning of 'terrorism' at its very initial stage in every UN council but none of the world countries listened before.
5.Its only now the whole world is united. I express my gratitude US agencies helped us investigating Mumbai attacks.
............................................................................
The bottom line is that we can't hand over a particular part of world to terroriists. Let us combat it, not turn our backs. India is safe.

Sadly I think it's more like...'First we'll f*** it, then we'll kill it.'... 'Cuz you know we'll really f*** almost anything whether it moves or not...

This attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers would have to be one of the most woeful and lowdown acts, and it does nothing to advance what is already as suspect agenda. It may have harmed Pakistani cricket for a while, but this cowardly act has done more harm to their own cause and exposes them for what they really are... cowardly extremists with no regard for humanity and civilisation whatsoever.
It is truly a sad day for World cricket, in particular Pakistani cricket as New Zealand has cancelled its tour and others undoubtedly will boycott Pakistan for the foreseeable future. Howver, the Australian and Pakistani cricket boards have reached an agreement to play a series of One-Day-Internationals at nuetral venues in the United Arab Emirates later this year, which can only be a good thing for cricket as a whole.
It would be sad to see one of the great cricketing nations being deprived of international games because of the cowardly acts of others, so hopefully other cricketing nations will be able to see beyond this and still invite Pakistan to play, either at home or on nuetral ground. Sports have had a habit of bringing nations closer over the years, and sportsmen/women have been among the best World ambassabors, also, so, in light of this trtagic event, let's hope that sport and common sense prevail.

That was organized last year...when Pakistan could not guarantee safety. We pulled out...unfortunately Sri Lanka didn't.
What will be even MORE interesting is whether India actually goes on to host the Commonwealth Games.
That too is going to be in doubt.

I wonder if the host nation will start a fund to try and help those who have lost family members, or been injured and require care.
A great pity the महात्मा (Mahatma) was not learned from. I can only wish that the injured heal and the mourners know peace.
I'd also love to understand more about Cricket...the more I read, the more I become confused...guess it's like skinning.

Does anyone believe the Pakistani players didn't murder their own coach last year?
Half their bowlers take drugs, they are persistent cheats, ball tamperers and it's about time they were banned from international cricket.
What a vile country.
I'm just glad the Sri Lankans are ok.

Specially for the Doc:-
The Rules of Cricket
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out, and when he’s out he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.
When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

I'm sure that to be expert, one has to know the ins and outs of the game.
Oh G-d, I'm so confused...I feel like the Abbott and Costello routine.
May I ask where does one go when he's "in"? Does that mean "at bat"? Are there 'innings'? Does the team at bat switch with the team in the field (are they "out"?) Or is one out after a number of pitches?
I can take the answer "off the air" in pm. I really don't wish to hijack the thread with my questions. Sorry, Supe if it seems that's happening.

It might be true. But why they did? They were responsible for their losses and not Late Bob Woolmer.

Better to play, play it online Slogout or Stickcricket or Cann Cricket
India can host Commonwealth games with all safety. Cmon, even if you had a neighbour like pak, u won't be all secure.
And to be true, even US is still fighting them... Has US destroyed all taliban camps there over so many years? No. So, you can't say India is weak or incapable.
Alright Mumbai blasts was a failure but this was a wake up call too. And there are such cases in history of every nation.

Bob was about to expose their gambling racket and so was silenced. No proof of course, but the circumstances are suspicious enough to suggest what happened.
India is safe.
Doc - pm on the way

Sri Lankan Cricketers at Colombo Airport
What could they do.......
“I saw two cars parked close to the bus. Two guys went down and then there was a shot aimed at the bus driver’s head. Luckily he wasn’t hit."
“We realised we were under attack and there were sounds of people shouting outside. They were shooting from all directions and I guess about 30 to 40 bullets were fired at the bus."
“The driver managed to just keep going and we reached the stadium. It was a really bad experience.”
“The driver saved the entire team because he just kept going despite the heavy gunfire,”
“Had he stopped there, we would not come out of this alive."
“Once we reached the stadium we were only bothered about attending to the guys who were injured.”
What they will do now......
“I’m just very happy to be able to see my family again to come back to Sri Lanka in one piece,”
“Every breath I take, I’m glad I can take it without a problem. When you experience an incident like this, your whole life flashes in front of you in a moment."
“I don’t think any of us expected to get out of this alive. We were very lucky no one actually suffered any serious or life-threatening injuries."
“Everyone is in good shape. There are a few guys who need more time to recover. Hopefully we can put this behind us and move forward.”

Nope....not when they are in the midst of 'arguments' with Pakistan on their border.
Formula One won't be going there any time soon.... and there's already 'talk' about the C'wealth Games.

Yes, I realise that the UAE games were organised last year amid safety concerns, but what I was alluding to is the fact that, despite refusing to tour Pakistan, the ACB did not/has not entirely boycotted Pakistan cricket. And despite what others may think, given recent events, I still think this is a good thing for World Cricket. A test cricket/ODI arena would not be the same without Pakistan as a major player, so I hope other cricketing nations follow suit and continue to organise games against them.
As with many countries, Pakistan has its 'nasty' elements and those who do not respect life, but that doesn't mean the entire country agrees with them... or is 'bad'. I have known many Pakistanis over the years and, for the most part, they were decent human beings one could respect and admire. Sadly, a few lunatics have performed cowardly and craven acts against humanity, their own countrymen, even, and now the 'world' has wrongly tarred the entire nation with the same brush.
Again, just because there may have been one or two 'bad eggs', it does not necessarily mean that the entire Pakistani cricket team is corrupt and/or are cheats. I met the Pakistan team twice (Hobart and Brisbane), and while a couple may have seemed standoffish (arrogant, even) the majority of the team came across as humble, easy going guys who have a love of the game, but no more than other nations cricketers so as to cheat.
There's good AND bad in every facet/walk of life, and it is truly sad that Pakistan has had more than its fair share of troubles recently, but it would inappropriate to throw a blanket over the entire nation and say all under it are bad, not for the sake of a minority who are less than good.

That is your opinion perhaps because you never came India... Ask from the Oz cricket team or the English.
For sports... you can confide with the security that will be provided.True, there have been a few blasts in recent times but more such materials have been seized on border. India is not blind, we care for our nation. Its only that peoplle need to be more aware of their surrondings for suspicious activities and they will learn this very soon.
What happened in Mumbai was an attack from outside, it wasn't planned in India, they came through sea and attacked but none of them could escape...nine killed one arrested.
When some intruders come, there are 99 percent chances that you will catch them but there are 1 percent chance when you fail.
India and US are their prime targets. They have planned to claim lives in 300 cities in the world.
India is more prone to attacks only because being nearer, it is within their reach. What if they got aircrafts or long distance missiles? No country will be safe then. So we will have to fight not boycottttt, Goldman!
Their camps are not within India. They are trained in tribal areas of pak... US is still destroying their camps since 9-11, you can see how tough it is. Its not video games and some online chat, its real liife where both sides are determined for good and bad reasons.
Hopefully one day we will overcome all these evil forces.
This is true not all people are bad there. The people are not responsible for whats happening, Its their officials, military and leaders who have seeded hatred in their hearts and misused the power. It is unfortunate that most of pak institutions are run by the barbaric military.
However, the people are incapable to stop all these. Its easier to say people can oppose them on paper but in practical you can't challenge people with AK-47 in hands. What they should complain when everything is crystal clear. To whom they would report. People there will have to fight another struggle for independence. They will have to realize it is not the way to go. What will they give to their future generations?
Pak needs foreign support but not the way US is giving to them. The money which US gives to them goes into terrorists hands. I think US should appoint its own people there or establiish organisations to do the development work. It might be against the law but its indispensable for the sake of Humanity... and it can be done with the $$$ that US hands over to pak and their officials and military pass it over to......
