DeskScapes in XP ......Again!
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 by peejay00 | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers
Getting a bit of a tired subject now, but I have new information that may help someone.
My sytem is a 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4, running Windows XP with 2 Gbyte ram and an ATI X800XT graphics Card.
I reported recently that when I installed the latest ATI drivers, everything was running very sluggish and the processor was running constant at 50%. I believe other people were having the same problem.
I have now found that by unloading objectdock plus before running dreams the system runs perfectly smoothly with dynamic dreams, although the processor is varying between 20% and 35%. I have not tried it with video dreams yet though.
I think that all things considered I prefer to have objectdock plus and not bother with DeskScapes at the moment, but would like to make anyone with a similar set-up to mine who wishes to purchase DeskScapes, that providing they are not running objectdock, it should work fine.
Although I am sure that I will now be shot down in flames ![]()

Antimated wallpapers sounds really good. I waited for it to come out for XP, tried running it and I guess my video/graphics card is not new enough to handle it. Then did some thinking about it and decided that if I had Vista, I probably woundn't run it.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

Would that be an AGP 4x motherboard by any chance?

Are you 100% certain it is running full AGP 8x mode?
The symptoms are identical to my AGP 4x motherboard (Pentium 4). If you disable antialiasing then the cpu usage will drop.

Yes it is definately set to 8x and I dont have much else taking resources. Bit of a strange one. As I said though, it only becomes a real problem when I try to run deskScapes with objectdock running, it then becomes unusable.
The new ATI drivers should be out soon, so when I install those I will do a complete clean out of the old drivers to see if that makes any difference.
Any other suggestions are welcome though.

Hey Man thanks a lot for the info! I am running a similar setup and I have object bar and Love It! I have been wanting the deskscapes forever but wondered how it would do with xp. For me if it means having to choose between object bar and animated backgrounds I choose object bar hands down! Thanks so much for you input I really appriciate it!
