WAAAAAAAA Deskscapes does not work in Windows 7!

Sunday, January 11, 2009 by lordwilliam | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I installed the beta today of Windows 7 and deskscapes won't work.  I am so unhappy, I really love deskscapes and windows 7.

I guess I will just have to wait (and waiting is not one of my strong points).

Luckily I had a extra hard drive in my computer, that I installed it to.  I have to admit as stable as it is I am thinking about installing it on my laptop & overwriting Vista.

I responded to the first post about windows 7 Beta (Beta being the operative word here) that extreme care should be exercised re: independent partion for it, and finding out whether uninstalling it would be a problem.

I wouldn't expect it to work with a lot of customization software at this point, or perhaps with drivers....

Also, playing with Beta's...sorta like playing with razor blades, in a way...the cutting edge usually does just that.

MS is basically giving a whole lotta people the opportunity to turn their computers into "guinea pigs"....

Hope you can revert to your prior OS and enjoy Deskscapes, lordwilliam.

Well yeah deskscapes wont work, thats due to display drivers. Way until June when the OS has actually hit RTM before trying Deskscapes.

Lets remember that Windows 7 is an early beta product.

Both Fences and Deskscapes run in Win7.  However  . . since Win7 handles teh explorer process differently both apps need to tie into it . . well . . . differnetly.  Don't sweat it too much.  It's under control.

I haven't tried Deskscapes, but yesterday I loaded WindowBlinds and found to my disappointment that it reverts to 'Windows Classic' and the tasbar is all out of proportion... ie, the start button and sys tray are not properly displayed.

I think this may be due to the deeper taskbar and WB/the skins I tried not accomodating the extra width.  Oh well, it's still early days yet and I'm sure the issue will be resolved in time.  However, I tried IconPackager and it works/changes icons OK, it's just that the preview feature does not work... meaning IP sets have to be applied to see what they look like if you can't remember their appearance.  Not to worry, though, it's a small glitch that I'm sure will be resolved by the time Win & goes gold.
