Sub style problems
Tuesday, December 9, 2008 by Vampothika | Discussion: Skinning
I made a new wb in vista, and created a substyle for xp and made vista default. Then I went into xp and loaded up the skin. But in sk6 no matter what changes i make to the start menu, nothing changes on it..... i really dont know what is going on, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Substyles seem to be my major weakness, and I am trying my best to master them.

Here is what I would try.
Backup your skin.
Then open the skin folder in windows explorer.
Delete any files you see with a wb4 extension.
Then reapply the skin. reload your skin in sks, make a new substyle, does it work?

Nighttrain? I have one more question...in the startpanelloggoff section, how are those logg off buttons maouvered? is it through the text settings? (im so used to using 'content margins in sk5 for this part)....cause im moving the text position and nothing is happening......and i cant see where else to manipulate where they are sitting...

REALLY?? so just skin over it...from now on? but will it be okay if i rename it?....man this is scary...scary territory....

You will be fine. WHenever you rename the skin. Womanually remove any left over files with the same name that you just changed it from. Example Superskinv1 gets renamed to superduperskinv1. In the folder of the superduper skin, delete any non image files labeled superskinv1. You can build yourself a better template everytime you make a new skin as you are familiar with all the images. Diamond is missing some random coding as well.
The logoff buttons are controlled by the right pane image edge. You can't move the logoff buttons for Vista. Same with the search box. It's right side is set by the right pane image edge. It's all pretty screwy. Move hte buttons by manipulating the images. See my iSpire skin for example.
You can adjust the laft edge of the saerch bar under the bottom bar extra tab.

hmm those xp logg off buttons wont move when i play with the text margins on the startpanelloggoff......and also the username font on the userpane wont move or be changed either........... im not sure what to do at this point.....

Set the userpane alignment text to OS default then try moving the text. It's been awhile but one of those settings will allow the text to move.
Not sure what to say about the logoff buttons. I don't think I have eveer had any trouble with them.
I wont have access to XP today but if your stilll having trouble. Email me the skin . craig at cdoman dot com.

Kitty, what skin did you originally use for the template on your skin? The very original one you used?
