I wasn't expecting THAT!

I have one colleague from Archie school that I still hang out with after all these years.....but sadly he actually sees me as his resident 'expert' for all-things 'computer', even though he's used one longer [from ACAD 10 in Dos] up to the current Revit.

I got a phonecall the other day....he was in Crime Converters [Cash Converters is its 'real' name] looking at a Toshiba Laptop that he wanted to buy....[it'd be second hand, obviously].

Now, since I'm always online his idea was to get me to Google the model to see what it was 'like'...eg real retail price, specs, etc...which I did.

Anyway....he bought it....$750 was better than the retail $1299.

Yesterday he brought it over for his 'expert' to have a look at.  He booted it up and....

"What on earth", I exclaimed.  "It's got a dock and widgets and stuff....nothing like XP at all...."

I right-clicked on the Dock on the left of screen to work out WTF I was looking at and lo and behold  "Object Dock, by Stardock.corp".

You know, it was the VERY FIRST time I'd actually seen a computer with a Stardock Proggy on........that WASN'T mine....

lol, hey you're right about stuff being cheaper elsewhere, but get this, they were selling this sega megadrive game a few years back, for $10 more than the actually game store was selling it for new wtf so I started re-directing folks to the cheaper place hehe

Good on'ya Tailsgirl!  Now if you can't redirect the road past their place to someplace else, maybe you could plant some dope and stolen property there and redirect the cops there instead.

If all else fails, superglue their doors shut.

Oh well, that's when you remove the radio/CD player from his car, sneak it into their shop and ring the plaza manager to tell him Crime Converters has it.

Hey, Tailsgirl, do you follow Penrith in the NRL? Got one of me old mates down there, Petero Civonoceva... great player, hey!

St George, before all this merging teams crap, I wish it was how it was 20 years ago, then I might be interested again

My Dad liked Manly

St George, before all this merging teams crap,

Don't like St George... first they got our Wendell Sailor, then our Wayne Bennet and our Michael Ennis.  As you can tell, I am a Brisbane Broncos supporter... and I'm NOT happy.

But you're right, though, the NRL has messed things up and the great game of league has never been the same since... too many new rules and way too many stoppages.  As for the mergers, I too wish they had left things alone, it was much better when it was Balmain and Wests, St George and Illiwaarra... and the league was better for having the Nth Sydney Bears as well.

Actually, it was all that bloody Rupert Murdoch's fault, throwing a spanner in the works with his damned 'Super League'... the bastard.  I read the other week that Murdoch lives in the US now... well as far as I'm concerned they can bloody well keep him.

'Ere, it's just dawned on me, Murdoch might be the Puppeteer.

You're probably right starkers!

I miss the days of Graham Langlands, Billy Smith, Rocket Reddy, and all of those guys, I wouldn't know anybody these days, though I did meet Peter Sterling [Ex Parramatta] in a golf club with my Dad, and had a few beers with him, nice guy, bald as a badger now though

Yup, they were the good old days.... days when players could remain at their club for the duration of their playing career if they wanted to.  Not any more, not with the salary cap restrictions forcing clubs to let long-serving and loyal players go to remain under the cap to avoid fines/loss off premiership points.  I know that Petero Civonoceva didn't want to leave ther Broncos, but at the end of the day he was given no choice.

Yeah, Sterlo is a great bloke... I met him when he and Paul Vautin did the Channel 9 Footy Show up here... both gentlemen and great ambassadors of the game.  I used to work with Allan (Alfie) Langer on the Ipswich City Council some years ago, but I've met and known quite a few Broncos over the years... Wendell Sailor is a cousin to my kids on their mother's side, as is Mal Meninga somewhere along the line.

Despite the changes, however, I still follow the rugby league cos it's a darned sight better game than that aerial ping pong stuff they play down in Victoria... cos I'm a bloke and traditionally gotta watch/follow some sport.  The only other sport I bother with is cricket, but generally the international games.

Ah, Chris "Choppy' Close... another great player and ambassador of the game... especially around Stae of  Origin time these days.

Hmmm!! Maybe he was a bi-sport spectator.
