Tracking ObjectDock systray issues
Saturday, October 11, 2008 by TheD2JBug | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Hello.
No , I'm not calling the waaambulance. I just want to start a thread where you can post your issues with the Systray feature in ObjectDock . I would appreciate you post in the following format
OS version
Dock Version
Issue
Example
I have 2 machines
OS: Vista and XP
OD version:1.90a ( 538u ) Plus on both
Blank Systray docks on both machines.

So what's it mean when I have OD 1.90 b537 installed an running (as shown in OD's about dialog), yet Impulse shows I have 1.91k b538 installed?
Is there a way to 'reset' Impulse's register of what's installed and/or updated?
FWIW SDC shows 1.90i[b].020 as installed for me.

I'm not sure but, I'm thinking that since Build 537 is the latest beta but is an SDC only build, Impulse treats it the same as Build 538 so people don't flip flop between the two builds.

I advise everyone to first Archive the version they have BEFORE applying any updates. That way if things go wrong, you can simply Restore that Archive.
In Impulse, right-click on the app and choose 'Archive Application'.

I don't use Impulse.
I opened SDC for the first time in a while, no updates. Rebooted my laptop, and my systray icons have gone!
same here, which is the one I've had installed with no problems until now, though if I click 'About OD' I get 1.90a ( 538u )
I haven't updated anything from SDC, so I'm wondering about some weird type of timestamp that's messing things up. Can't be bothered to re-install at the moment.
Running Vista Enterprise SP1

This is something that is being explored already. No word on what the latest updates are going to be at this time but this is being considered.

If you are getting the 1.91k(a) version you are likely to have Systray troubles as we can replicate easily what people have been reporting here. You will need to back up to the previous version of Object Dock by unchecking the "show pre-release versions" options in Impulse. That build is a beta/alpha build and is only for test available to the public. Support has reported this up to the developers. Sorry for the trouble!

If i get a fix or a workaround I will post up in the forums. Sorry for the trouble ![]()

Ok for anyone that upgraded from the full version to the lastest beta two things you can try.
1) Uninstall then reinstall to the beta version
2) Clear the cache, here are the instructions on how to do so:
Before doing any of this back up your settings.
-Open any folder on your computer (My Computer works, too)
-Open Tools->Folder Options (on Vista, hit F10 to see this menu)
-Under the 'View' tab, Click the "Show Hidden Files\Folders" option
-Click OK out of that dialog
Then go to Start>Run (or Start>Start Search in Vista) and paste the following:
for XP: %userprofile%\local settings\application data\stardock
for Vista: %userprofile%\AppData\local\stardock\
Delete any ObjectDock or ObjectDock Plus folders in this directory.
Next, you will have to go into the registry to delete a key. Do this by:
-Press the 'Windows' key and the 'r' key at the same time
-Type in 'regedit' and press enter
-Navigate to the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\'
-If you see a listing for 'ObjectDock' click on it and press the delete key, click yes to the prompt that comes up.
Reboot your machine once again and then reinstall ObjectDock. Any settings within ObjectDock should be removed by completing this process.
To Restore Dock settings:
-Right Click on the dock and choose 'Dock Settings...'
-Click on the 'Themes' Section on the left side.
-Click the 'Load Previous Dock...' button.
-Choose the name you gave the dock when you saved it.
Please let me know whether this resolves the systray issue.

Ok so we had a few people say that this did work for them and a few that didn.t We are testing to narrow down the trouble. In the mean time we still suggest that you turn off pre-release versions and "update" (ie back up to the last version of the software) until an update can be made. Of course this is still a beta version of the software so troubles like this will occur. Thanks for the heads up!

Uninstalling and then reinstalling fixed the problem for me. I just used Impulse also, and made sure "Show Pre-Release versions" was Unchecked.

Uninstalling a re-installing through SDC worked for me, though still at a loss as to why it suddenly lost the systray when I had not updated anything. ![]()

Well now that we are back to the previous beta if you have updated to that version and the error persists please uninstall the whole thing, restart, then reinstall the beta. Let me know if that works for you as I have it working on this end on Vista and XP.
Reply #58 Tuesday, October 14, 2008 3:04 PM
I'm not at the previous beta because SC can't find it to download it. I click the Install button in SC and after a few seconds I get an error saying that the download is not available.

when i used impulse to uninstall object dock plus, files were not found, so was unable to un-install the prog. received same error msg using sdcentral. object dock was not listed under vista installed progs. so i'm using as is until fix found. btw, i had not updated the prog (running latest beta), yet restarted one a.m. and my systray was gone. deleted dock & re-installed but no luck. running vista ultimate w/latest updates. possible recent auto-update cause prob w/ object dock? outside windefender updates, none on my system. any suggestions?

I currently see version 1.91k[a].025. I think I'll give the uninstall/reinstall a try.

Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit with SP1
Did you read the post? Have you tried Build 537 installed with SDC?
